TIGERLAND: Schumacher commentary - NOT schumacher

Probably a bit behind the times, but I've just watched the excellent Tigerland, and then decided to listen to the commentary by Joel Schumacher. It's not him, just some american guy. I suppose it's because Schumacher is sometimes a little difficult to understand, so they got some guy to re-record it. Or did they get the commentary from his notes ?
It's ridiculous, at the beginning the guy says 'Hi this is Joel Schumacher', went it's blatently not.
Do they think we are complete idiots ?

That's Schumacher on the commentary.

Also, he is some American guy. He's originally from New York.

Those New York accents can be hard to understand sometimes

OK, judging from your answers I think they should expect at least me to be a complete idiot.
Yes I thought he was german, I'm sure I heard him talking about B & R with a German accent.
Talk about making a fool of yourself.
Thanks for the info.

hehehehe this topic is pretty funny.

i'll tell you one thing though, i have a pretty big weakness for schumacher commentaries, i think i've listened to the 8mm commentary around 6 times. i find the legend of snuff endlessly interesting. and the man can talk pretty well. his phone booth and tigerland commentaries are pretty cool aswell.

I've listened to phone booth and tigerland (when i rented the DVDs, I won't buy them) and he is pretty good at commentary. Never bothered with 8mm. Maybe I'll rent it and give it a go.

I would love to hear what he had to say on either of his Batman films, but I don't think that'll ever happen. But that would be a reason to sit through the atrocity that is B&R, to hear him explain his view, see where it went wrong. They say nobody sets out to make a bad film, but when stuff like that comes out it makes you wonder.

i dont have any sympathy for people who go on about how horrible it is to sit through batman and robin, if you actually watched that film knowing how shitty it is you deserve to be punished by it. i've never bothered wasting my time with it. but i dont care how bad it is, its just silly to hold a personal grudge against the man because of some shit movie he made.

Not so much a personal grudge as a professional one. His job is to make movies, it's what he does. And I pay to see those films. And I have seen all his films since, so it'd be a little silly to talk about persoonal grudges, no?
I thought it was clear by my post that I'm willing to sit through it if he was talking about it, otherwise I obviously won't. I know there's much hyperbole surrounding B&R, and I'm certainly as guilty as everyone else. But if you haven't seen it I recommend that you do, just to see how wrong it can go.

I can't believe i started this thread. Talk about a major lack of braincells.

It blows that the one movie I'd love to hear a Shumacher commentary for has none. FALLING DOWN needs a better DVD.

I bought the DVD's specifically for that reason. And you know what? He apologizes. He's totally contrite and sincere. Does he understand the depths of the mistake he made? Doubtful, as he continuously claims he just "wanted to make a fun movie". But he's honestly ashamed, and, the fucker, he leaves the commentary with like ten minutes left in the movie. It even hurts him to watch.
