[QUOTE=ferriferous foodi]ok, so i just got back from seeing this.. and i was a bit disappointed as well..
and my main beef seems to be Braff.. he never really seemed convincing to me. infact he couldnt even pull off a "hey, hows it goin" when he would run into his old friends or someone that knew him.. it just felt.. wrong.. to me. i dont know why. i'd guess it was bad acting.

I don't think it was bad acting, in fact I think it was good acting. Large is very uncomftorable in his own skin and in a way doesn't even want to see people he knows. That's why when he sees people from his past the confrontation always seems uncomftorable. As the film goes on and we see a more confident Large. The Large in the beginning probably wouldn't have stuck up for Sam the way he did. Maybe I'm wrong but I think you may have missed the point of the akwardness. I mean the guy hasn't even called his father back in 8 years.

well, you may have a point.. but i've seen actors do "uncomfortable" and "awkward" on screen countless times before.. the fact that i didnt feel Braff connected in this film leads me to believe it was his acting, or rather lack thereof. it wasnt just those bits i didnt buy.. i felt the bit when Braff shakes his head in the rain (where he says goodbye to that dude living in the quarry) was just... silly. for a split second, i thought he was having an epileptic attack. i felt the lecture he finally gave his dad came out of nowhere and felt completely scripted.. i felt the scenes where Braff talks about how he hurt his mom and where he almost cries in the tub with Portman... were unconvincing. I felt it silly when he repeatedly used the line "well, there's that". I dunno.. i never saw Braff's tv work, i dont hate the guy.. and maybe its just me (certainly seems that way)..., but i call it bad acting.. its all i can do. I'll find out for sure only after i eventually get to rewatch it.

anyhow.. i DID enjoy the movie despite Braff's performance..
i was just a bit disappointed.

Jesus, I hate this movie.  On a pretty irrational level.  It's just like one of those people that rub me the wrong way.

Why do I have it playing in the background!?
