Nightmare Collection Review

Thread Starter
I got my Nightmare Collection DVD this past weekend and overall I was impressed. My thoughts are as follows:

1. My Skin - Pretty good although the beginning should have been made clearer.

2. Monster - Not sure why this made the DVD. The only stinker in the bunch. Poor acting, makeup, music, etc. Blood Drive anyone?

3. Bad Company - Good story. Would have been better with a twist.

4. The Wretched - Gem of the DVD. Very impressed. I am looking forward to more movies from this company.

5. It's only your imagination - Good story. I just wish it was in color. Pretty original though.

Outside of Monster, my only other disappointment was with necro nancy. Her scenes should have been in a more sinister location and she should have looked more dead.

Overall, I thought this was pretty good for the first time. Hopefully, it only gets better.

Your thoughts?

I love DON'T WORRY... all the more because it's in black and white. It adds such a creepy atmosphere to the flick, with all the texture and shadows. But it's such a great movie.

I dunno why...but the garden gnome in "Don't Worry.." freaked me out the most.

And I believe the B&W helped with the illusion of seeing or not seeing what was/wasn't there

Too bad you didn't dig "Monster", I picked that one just cause I thought it was pretty damn ambitious for such a small production, but no big deal. Others have said the same thing, to each their own.

Ryan and I had nothing to do with the Nancy segments, though I completly agree with you. The couch was just....

...shit.

Thank you all for your reviews. As for the Nancy material, I had a lot more planned for her but for one we didn't want her segments to take away from the main reason for the DVD which is the films and two, due to the problems we had with the various DVD issues we encountered our production was cut down conciderably. I have a lot more planned and now that we've been down this road once, I asure you that Volume 2 will be a step up in every way.

I still think this is a good first DVD and we put a ton of extra features in there for everyone to enjoy.

I love the disc art!

Got mine today and just watched...still have the extra features to watch though.

And I'll start with that. It's really awesome that you guys have included the extras you did. It does set the dvd a bit apart from others of its kind. I'm really looking forward to watching the ones I really dug with the audio commentaries. Very cool stuff.

My Skin!: I thought this was pretty cool. As it began, I was kinda wary, something about the first few shots had me thinking it was going to be some pretentious student flick, but it won me over. Not perfect, but it was pretty cool and had some great moments. And some truly great body language from the main "character," especially his hands. And I really dug his makeup. A cool little short and a nice beginning.

Monster: I gotta agree with the above. I thought this was pretty god awful. Plus, I'm sick of seeing low budget movies with crazy killers/serial killers and criminals. I'm not saying I could jump up off my couch and do better, and I defintely admire the effort...as Johnny said, it was pretty ambitious, but I thought it was pretty bad. And the strange thing was, something about the doctor and the killer with the bad fake mustache made me think of Bruce McCoulough in a Kids in the Hall skit wearing a bad fake mustache and it started me laughing.

Bad Company: This was better than Monster by a mile, but still didn't do all that much for me. The ending was kinda obvious, but it was pretty well done.

The Wretched: This was pretty fucking cool. Very well done and well paced and I really dug it. No complaints here. 2nd best film on the dvd.

Don't worry, it's only your imagination: Just awesome. And I'm with the above, I loved that it was in black and white. That fact alone helped make some of the scares truly....well, scary. Great build of tension that surprisingly gets you to a point where the scares will work without your really noticing the build up. Soime great quiet moments used very well and just some awesome stuff. There were four really good creepy moments for me and I've never been so tense watching someone working in a fireplace and water hitting a lightbulb I really dug it.

Necro Nancy: eh, I could do without her. I'm a huge fan of horror hosts, but she did nothing for me (she was fine and all, but the character was a big "eh.") The whole bad ass talking undead girl who takes a moment out from her 'revenge' to sit on the most unthreatening couch on the planet to introduce some horror shorts...well, a change is in order for the next one. Just in my opinion.

Also, I completely understand the need to place all the end credits for the films at the very end, but I would have appreciated just a few more seconds of black screen and music---esp after "Wretched" and "Don't worry..." to kind of dwell on their effect and mood for just a bit rather than cutting right back to the bright lights and beige couch and Nancy.

But overall, I was impressed. I loved 2 out of the 5 and really dug a 3rd. Not a bad average. Was money well spent. Can't wait for the next one. (again....I'll take a new hostess though)

I sot "Don't Worry..." in B&W for the tone of the story. I did debate over this for a while, but have no regrets in my choice. THe next one is definitely going to be in color, because of it's fall setting. I'm glad that you all liked this last one.

Once again great feedback that we will use for the follow-up. The bottom line is we want to have product out there that you all can appreciate and be money well spent. There are so many DVD's and compilations that are not worth the time and effort and especially the money they ask. I am happy that you enjoyed the DVD and we will note the ways we can make the next one even better.

Great job.

Rick, I know my payment was received a day late for pre-order status. Will there be a problem with filling my order at the pre-order rate? Let me know.
I received a couple a day late and I will honor all of them. I am just happy to bring you guys these great films.

Thanks man.

I haven't received mine yet (I sit patiently by the mailbox every day), but I'm looking forward to it.

What's the status on a Volume 2? Still accepting entries?
Got mine today. Hopefully I'll get to it tonight.

Received my copy yesterday. I'll be sitting down with a bowl of popcorn later. Woo hoo!

Finally sat down and watched the DVD and I am impressed. Overall it is much better than Fango's Blood Drive. I enjoyed all of the films and the presentation, a very nice package.

Glad I finally got to see Bill Johnson's DWIOYI after hearing so much about it. Very good, original film. Very subtle. The B&W looked great and there were many very impressive shots throughout. Definitely the best of the bunch though as I said I enjoyed them all.

I liked Necro Nancy except for the setting. The couch just didn't work. I still need to read the comic.

I hope this DVD sells well enough to warrant a 2nd volume. Congrats guys, good stuff.

I'm glad that you liked it.

Nightmare Stuff

Overall I think we are getting very positive reviews for the films and the additional materials. The first Volume was a tremendous learning experience and I hope we get to do a Volume 2 as there are so many quality shorts out there for everyone to experience. The switch for Ryan and Johnny jumping to 'Dread Central' has meant that TNC is not getting the exposure it needs so we'll have to figure out what to do.

I'm glad you all like the DVD overall and you don't know how much it meant to me to be able to bring everyone Bill's movie on DVD for the first time. I'm so glad everyone now has a chance to see it.

Let's hope we get to put together Volume 2 and make it even bigger and better for all you great Horror fans out there.
