Is it November yet?
I've still yet to see anything but the teaser trailer for this thing. Probably should play catch up.
Can't wait to see it, that old pixar magic never fails and the inclusion of Brad Bird? This will be a homerun for the pixar folks, what's not to like, Jason Lee? GOOD. Sam JAckson? GOOD! Craig T. Nelson?! GOOD

1. The clips they showed at the San Diego Comic Con were incredible (to coin a phrase).
2. Pixar has yet to make a movie that I didn't like.
3. Sam Jackson's character is named "Fro-zo".

That's 3 points in favor. More than I had walking into AvP. I'm so there.
The thing about this movie, besides the fact that PIXAR has yet to make anything near a flop (Bug's Life still made coin) and that Mr. Iron Giant is in charge, is that we've never really seen a large-budget animated superhero movie.

Being able to visualize a cartoony superhero movie raises so many possiblilties that either don't come across well in live action, or are completely unbelievable when attempted.

There are no sets, no stunts, no bad CG-itis. Only a limited imagination will hold this movie back, and we know Bird and Pixar are not lacking in imagination.

I only hope that my expectations dont lower my enjoyment of this movie. But, since I will be seeing it with my 3 year old son, I'm sure I will enjoy it. Hell, I liked Shrek 2 because I was sitting next to him.

This is one of the few that I'm actually really excited about (the other being Sky Captain). Pixar is one of the few out there in my hum. op. that truly makes a "family film" not just a "kid's" flick. Too many supposed family films are really dumb & not very entertaining for adult filmgoers who really prefer the edge of R rated ones. Pixar on the other hand seems to have just the right pulse, pacing, & punch to not only keep a 2 year old in their seat but also a jaded 40 year old.
I'm excited because it's Pixar, but more excited because of Brad Bird, whose animated output (THE SIMPSONS, THE IRON GIANT) has been nothing but awesome.

In the EW Fall Movie Preview, it said that Bird was really schooled in the art of CG animation once this project came to Pixar/Disney from WB.

Quote:
Pixar welcomed Bird aboard wholeheartedly, despite his inexperience with full-on CG animation. According to producer John Walker, who also worked on Iron Giant, "They put us in bubble wrap so we wouldn't hurt ourselves. They surrounded us with a lot of very experienced people." Bird proceeded to drive Pixar's resident technical wizards batty by coming up with scenes full of things extremely difficult to do well in CG: billowing supersuits, convincingly weighty muscles, and - toughest of all - hair that could blow in the wind or undulate underwater. "I felt like the computers had their own agenda," says Bird. "To make things look small, plastic, clean and weightless."
Also, in their "What's at Stake" area, EW seems to think that this film might not beat out Shrek 2 for the Best Animated Film Oscar next year and almost certainly will not top Shrek 2's box office numbers.

It'd be nice if Pixar could prove them wrong.

I thought the teaser was fantastic and the full-length trailer really played up the whole 50s/60s superhero vibe to great effect (especially towards the end.)

EW thinks that Shrek 2 will outdo Pixar?

Well, I was about to say like hell they will but then again te first one won aginst monsters Inc. which I feel was 5 times better than Shrek.

Shrek 2 was good but it didn't really stick to me down the line, Pixars films are timeless tales told perfectly, it helps that the group behind Pixars flicks really don't want to turn in a half assed job.

They can do no wrong and it will certainly be better than Shrek 2. Pixar will probably get shafted again.

It's EW.What did you expect?

This looks amazing, after being diappointed by Finding Nemo this one looks ready to kick ass. The trailer looked like it had some fantastic action scenes. I can't wait to see this one at the cinema.
I have the exact same feeling Dragon. This looks great.
an I never thought Craig T. Nelson would have a hand in one of the more promising film of the year.
It'll be great to see a superhero film that's not held back by real life, Pixar can unleash any kind of villain, deathtrap, action sequence, super power, and destruction they want. Sam Jackson yelling for his super suit is fried gold.
'WHERE IS MY SUPERSUIT WOMAN'

If that line came from anyone else it wouldn't sound half as cool. Sam Jackson talking smack is never a bad thing.

You were disappointed by Finding Nemo?? I thought it was pretty good, though I am MUCH MORE excited about this one than i was about Nemo.

The trailer has me in stitches the first time I saw it, and plus, Jason Lee's playing the villian.

I think that The Incredibles appeals to a much more adult audience than Finding Nemo did.

New commercials here: coming soon

This one is awesome.
Alfalfa, I'm not at home right now, so can't see that video at the moment. But is that the clip with Dash running all over the place? I saw that yesterday on AICN and have now put myself on a trailer/commercial ban on all things Incredible 'till November. I'm serious.

The clip was that good. The sad thing was at the time, I couldn't even hear the sound. The images were perfect. Hell, seems like they even threw a small nod to Return of the Jedi in there. This movie is going to kick ass and take names.

Yes it's the one with Dash. Tons of new and absolultely amazing footage.

New Incredibles character posters are up at Jo Blo. Fat superheroes make me giggle.

I love the one sheet - lots of little touches, and great to see Pixar's version of the floating head's poster
post #23 of 100
There was a great cover story in Wired a while back about the Incredibles. Basically, Brad Bird said that he was hired because his outsider presence would shake things up creatively. And that's what he did. Since he had no knowledge about hyper-realisitc CGI, he asked the animators for way more advancement than usual. Every kind of environment, all kinds of human characters, and all kinds of dymanics. Maybe that's part of the reason why the trailer is so constrained content wise.

It sounds like the working environment at Pixar is almost impossibly cool (even if they seem dorky on the DVDs.)
I didn't know a miniature CGI version of Linda Hunt is in this movie. Neat!
Does the corner of that poster say "Superhero costumes designed by Edna Mode"?

I think it does.

Blisterin' blue barnacles, November 5th is a long way away.

Yeah, I noticed that too. I figured he had some super-secret connection and wanted to lord over us the fact he'll get the game early.
Just to be sure, I think I'll make daily surprise visits to his homestead in the two weeks leading up to the game's release. Don't worry, Nick....I'll bring scones with me.
Apprently Nick has the HOOK up in the gaming world.

I noticed the Edna Mode thing too - I think that's the character voiced by Bird himself no?

I love the character bits they added to this new trailer. Some pretty good gags too. You can kinda tell his waistline will be a recurring gag. But nothing I've seen so far has me worried that Pixar is going to hit a lower target.

I'm really surprised that Yahoo got this first, and not Apple.
That trailer just elevated it from being fun in a kids WB, Cartoon Network but big big budget kind of way to looking really really good. At least, for me anyway.

I think it was assembled exclusively for Yahoo. There's a lot of new stuff but about half of it is from the first teaser. I loved the footage but thought it was arbitrarily put together. Hopefully the next "proper" trailer will be even MORE satisfying.
Yeah, the trailers for this seem badly assembled, except for that amazing original teaser of course.

That giant robot you see him fighting in the volcano at the end? That whole sequence is one of the ones they screened at the comic con. It's better than any of the Spiderman 2 action sequences. I shit you not.
I believe it, Prankster. I was just thinking today that this movie has a good chance of being a template for future super hero movies to come.
The thing about Pixar is that they make it seem all so effortless. The laughs, the story, the action, the characters...they are all organic to the whole film experience. There are never any awkward plot devices, no unnecessary action set pieces, no useless characters created just for a few laughs (think Shrek 2's Puss in Boots...a great character, but what did he have to do with the plot? How did he change the other characters...did he have his own character arc? No, he was there just as gag. Pixar does not do this).

Watching a Pixar film I ask myself, "why can't all movies be this good? It seems so simple."

I think that Yahoo! has some kind of exclusive thing with several of the studios, as they've been premiering new trailers fairly regularly.
I loved the parts about the family living at home, and Mr. Incredibles day job. Looks like a lot of comic potential there (and tons of great outake opportunities for the DVD!)

I agree the traily was kind of a mix and match of different parts of the story more than anything cohesive, but thought it showed you the tone and humor of the film well.

I think this could be Pixar's best yet . . . but we'll see
post #39 of 100
I think this is really gonna be another homerun by Pixar. I dont think they can do a bad film. And Brad Bird being involved is AWESOME. Cant wait to see if Pixar can put out another great one like Finding Nemo.

Oh yes - it is Brad Bird - which makes that specific character my favorite! Everything I have seen so far as far as promo materials are stellar and I'd bet my house that this will be awesome and won't disappoint.
If you went to the Incredibles panel in San Diego this year, you KNOW how kickass the action in this movie is going to be.

Moviefone has a new clip featuring Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl.

Good clip - Coming soon has a lot of great stuff too. I think the "Dash" clip is my favorite.

Some Incredibles buzz....

Quote:
I have seen 'The Incredibles' and found it, well, incredible. All I can say is, suddenly watching a digital simulation of 'Spider-Man' swing through skyscrapers feels very old indeed.

Just think -- you have a wonderful gift to look forward to in a couple weeks. Given how admired Brad Bird is in the animation community, it could just upset 'Shrek 2' -- what I truly admired about it is how it doesn't rely on pop cultural references from outside its universe for the humor. Which is getting to be an overused gimmick for the DreamWorks folks.
A concern about The Incredibles is that it's not funny enough. After the side-spllitting antics of Finding Nemo, will audiences respond adversely to a film that has a lot more serious character moments? There's some complex stuff in the film and, aside from two or three bif laughs, there might not be enough levity to break through the tension.
So what if it's not a straight comedy? If it works equally as well as an action film (which reports from SDCC indicate it does) as it does as comedy, then where's the problem? Not every animated movie has to be a laugh-a-minute riot. I don't think any of Pixar's movies have ever played like that.

Bird has said that if IRON GIANT was his E.T., then this is his RAIDERS. That sounds like a pretty damn entertaining prospect to me. If it's funny where it should be, exciting where it should be, and (gasp!) touching where it should be... isn't that really the best of all possible scenarios?
Agreed. While Pixar has put in great humor in their films, they manage to balance it with serious scenes and themes. Toy Story 1 & 2 dealt with one's own importance, and Monsters Inc. and Finding Nemo had great moments that would resonate with any parent. And all of them managed to include incredibly funny gags and dialouge. Definitely a sign of quality in their output.
