Top Five Sports Movies

Thread Starter
The Olympics kind of got me into the sports mood and I saw Without Limits and Hoosiers inside of a week, so this just felt right. I was kind of surprised to not see a thread for this started when I searched the forum. Anyway, here goes:

1. Bull Durham
2. Hoosiers
3. Slapshot
4. The Natural
5. Field of Dreams

I need to get around to seeing Chariots of Fire- I'm pretty sure I'd bump Field of Dreams for it.

This needs to be broken up into two separate categories, I think.

Top five dramas:
1) Field of Dreams
2) Hoosiers
3) Pride of the Yankees
4) Raging Bull
5) Brian's Song

Top five comedies:
1) Caddyshack
2) Slap Shot
3) Major League
4) Bull Durham
5) The Longest Yard

Now try paring that list down to 5? I can't.

SLAP SHOT is awesome. Such a great, great movie.
no particular order...

Vision Quest
Bad News Bears
The Longest Yard
Caddyshack
The Sandlot (quite possibly my favorite child-hood movie of all time)

just the first five I could think of...definetly more of em

Screw that, any sports film has drama INHERENT in it.

1)Eight Men Out

2)Bull Durham - great mix of reverence and, well, irreverence

3)Slap Shot

4)North Dallas Forty

5)For Love of the Game - underrated

Just a bit outside: Bad News Bears, original Rollberball (nobody said it had to be a real sport), The Longest Yard, Tin Cup, Caddyshack (the golf is incidental, really)

Best SCENES in non-sports movies: the football game in M*A*S*H*; the baseball game in The Naked Gun; opening sequence in The Last Boy Scout

The Legend of Bagger Vance

Breaking Away, folks. Breaking Away!

Slap Shot is a close second.

Slap Shot owns all IMO.

Followed by...

Caddyshack

Baseketball

Major League

and I really did enjoy Any Given Sunday

I'm not shocked most of you boneheads don't have Raging Bull on your lists.

Shut up. You just shut up. I'll fucking take care of you later.

Bang the Drum Slowly
Pride of the Yankees
Monday Night Mayhem
Hoop Dreams
The Jericho Mile

HMs: Passing Glory, Necessary Roughness, Ali, Raging Bull, *61...

Man, I missed 61*; it's a little too obviously made-for-tv, but it never fails to move me. Necessary Roughness is serviceable, but it sort of sabotages itself (for me at least) by making highly obvious jokes and ripping off Burt Reynolds flicks wholesale.

As for the absence of Raging Bull - good flick, but it doesn't make my personal list because I don't like boxing.

Pretty much same here.

(Just imagine the front covers of five Air Bud DVDs. I'm too lazy to find them and post them.)

This is probably the best one, if for nothing else than the fact that it hints at a raccoon sidekick/rival that probably throws in the mid 90's with a wicked change-up. Will hilarity ensue? Who will survive, and what will be left of them?

Grand Prix (could someone please get this out on DVD with a commentary track with James Garner and Jackie Stewart!)
Le Mans
Caddyshack
Bad News Bears
The Natural

Best wishes,
