More proof of Kubrick's visual genius:

The normal poster for Dr Stangelove is already wonderful

But the alternate one is even better

very, VERY nice posters.

this poster is fantastic:

Last Samurai had a few good posters; there was one with the lead actress that was almost beautiful.

You know, Martin Scorsese movies typically have very good posters; for all its ugliness, the Raging Bull one-sheet cannot be improved upon. The Alice Doesn't... one-sheet is nice as well, and doesn't have many fans behind it either.

Mean Streets Italian:

Mean Streets 90's re-release UK quad:

Mean Streets Italian photobusta:

Mean Streets US re-release:

Mean Streets Italian part two:

Thought I'd scrounge up two of my favorite Planet of The Apes posters, the first being the French one-sheet:

And the second being the splendid re-release one-sheet:

I'd love to get a hold of these two...

Modern Times

The Great Dictator

I love the quirky nature of the Modern Times poster. The colors in The Dictator are so vibrant they just jump out at you. Though I think I'd be nervous putting that one up on wall if you know what I mean.

And my favorite Hellboy poster...

LS, those Mean Street sheets are awesome... especially the Italian ones.

Chest,

You're not kidding; that first Italian Mean Streets poster is bad-ass. I hadn't seen that one before until I looked earlier; the photobusta is nice as well. The two Chaplin posters are cool; I hadn't seen either before and I like The Great Dictator the most of that set. Very cool.

Forbidden Planet: This is one of my all-time fav.'s; I think it's one of the ten best designed movie posters I've ever seen. What a beauty!

awesome poster, i also love the GO APE one from before, that poster didnt work before for me.

as for the hellboy one, i love that image, it granced my desktop for quite a while, i also found a t-shirtof it in a comic store, but they only had sizes that were too big or else i surely would have purchased it.

I had to find a different photo; the first one I used, as you stated, didn't work but some Australian site had it.

Thought you might like this one:

Note how most people seem to prefer painted or art style posters. Why then do studios make so few of them anymore? Is it just because they're stingy?

hmm i wouldnt say i prefer them, i like them as a part of the cultural significance of vintage era films. the only time this style is used nowadays is when the filmmaker is specifically going for that feel. i kinda think it should only be used for that now. most films just wouldnt be able to pull it off.

I...frickin'...LOVE posts like this. I just dig seeing posters that I've never seen before.

Here's some of my favorites:

I loved "Die Hard" and picked this up while in college, only to find out it was pretty rare. A friend's brother was going to pay me a lot of money for it, but I just can't part with it, even though it's getting pretty beaten up.

Oh, and how can you forget this:

That Shawshank one reminded me of how much I love the poster for Road to Perdition. The coloring is beautiful and compliments the cinematography perfectly:

Also among my favorites:

And while I have my reservations about the movie, there's no denying that this poster kicks ASS:

This poster scared me when I was a kid. Wish I could find the Jaws poster that I remembered, where there was more water and the shark was not centered.

This poster, along with the tagline and credits, guaranteed my ticket opening weekend.

Surprised no one has posted this one yet. Subtle yet epic:

The best Star Wars poster ever. PERIOD:

As much as I like the Struzan Raiders poster higher up, I think this one blows it away:

Okay, the movie sucked, but I've always loved this poster (although all that text at the top does make it a little busy, but the image is stunning):

Worth it for the tagline alone:

Wow, a Mel Gibson movie with Mel's face nowhere on it!

The movie was a let-down, but this poster is ten kinds of awesome:

Ghostbusters teaser:

Ghostbusters theatrical:

It's the DVD cover, but I've always liked it:

I have these three as original one sheets, I have yet to get them framed:

Love this poster. It's one of the better posters for a Mann movie.

I love this one because it just looks extremely cool. It also sends out the tone of the film and what to expect from it.

Only if the critics words weren't on it, I would love it alot more.

this one also works as a wallpaper.

Along with the Raiders style B above, I have this one on my wall:

Took me a while to find it, and I love it because it shows the soldiers from a distance (please pardon Garfield in the background there).
Actually, Richard, I HAVE that Raiders poster in my collection and not the Struzan, oddly enough.

The Dawn and Night posters reminded how fucking GREAT the marketting was for the Dawn remake:

This is a really good thread, by the way. Let's keep it going.
