I was not sure where to post this.
I saw "M" (1931), the 2000 restored version, on TCM a month or so ago. Later, after seeing the movie, I went on IMDB and got more information on the movie and I found out there was multiple endings. In the restored version I saw, the mob screams about how Hans Beckert (Peter Lorre), the child murderer, should be put death, and so the mob gets out of control and starts to run towards Lorre, the suddenly stop and raise their hands. Cut to Lorre looking around, a hand grabs him on the shoulder from behind, a voice says "In the name of the law", then there's a complete cut to a courtroom, several judges walk toward their seats in the courtroom, as if the law is about to inflict its sentence. Then there's a final cut to 3 mothers whose children were murdered by the killer. One of the woman then say how their children should be watched over, or something like that.
A couple of days ago "M" was shown on PBS, and it was defiantly not the restored version. So I thought I would see a different ending, but again it was the same as the restored version's ending.
It was a great movie, I thought, but does anyone know if there was a different ending to "M"?
