It's pretty useful. Especially if you're on a computer without Office and you want to view a document/powerpoint. Also, it's great because you can have documents shared by specific other users. A couple summers ago, my roommates and I used it to keep track of our expenses to each other.

The embedded chat actually annoys me sometimes (leave me alone, people!). Is there a way to turn it off?

Just sign out of chat (under "Set status here"). Nobody can bother you then.

Look at the bottom. Click on "standard without chat" and it will go away.

GMail now has IMAP available. So mobile users and those with multiple computers who like to use reader programs like Outlook and Thunderbird, rejoice!

Look in your GMail settings, and make sure you disable POP and enable IMAP. Also, if you're already using a reader, make sure you change the reader's account settings.
