Commercials At The Movies

Does anyone else find this as fuckin' annoying as I do?

At home at least I can turn the channel. Yesterday before the excellent OPEN WATER, I set through three commercials and five friggin' trailers.

I don't mind Hollywood pushing the films so much, but where do you draw the line? In five years are we gonna be sitting through thirty minutes of commericials and trailers.

The commercials have to go!

In england we have around 25 minutes of commercials and trailers. live with it, or just go into the cinema a few minutes later than the advertised start time. or take a piss. plenty of ways to avoid the ads.

Are they horror-themed commercials?

I don't object to the commercials as much as I do the volume. Do I need to hear that M&M song at 120 decibels every time?! I'm deaf by the time the freakin' movie starts.

Point being it's a HUGE waste of time, and what if I don't have to take a leak? Maybe go wack off that would kill a good 2 minutes right there. (lol)

This is why I prefer the "Twenty" at Regal cinemas. It's a little twenty minute pre-show thing that shows previews for TV shows, movies or whatever. Sure, it's just another type of long commercial, but at least it doesn't delay the starting time of the movie. Of course, I'd rather have nothing ('cept trailers), but I know that won't happen.

here's a thing: there are always stories of movies having to be cut short so that they can fit in more showings in a day. yet 25 minutes of adverts before every showing automatically reduces the number of showings no matter how long the movie is.
Possibly that's interesting, though the only real answer is that adverts bring in CASH. the only solution is to go and live somehwere where there's no money. only they won't show any films there...

calculating it just right and sitting down just as the movie is beginning is part of the ritual over here. i've heard people say they like the adverts as they 'add to the occasion', but then some people are really stupid.

I love the trailers, (often times more then the movie I'm seeing), and am very angry when I miss them. But the commercials really piss me of. I already paid to get into the fucking thing now you have to sell me shit?

Adverts bring in cash for the exhibitor, but not the distributor or production company. There is still plenty of money to be made by all parties without showing pre-show ads.
