Psycho reference in a children's book

So I was reading a book to my kids last night called "Where do Balloons go" by Jamie Lee Curtis and I turned the first couple pages and what do I see in one of the bubbles but the Bates Motel. Yes the sign said Bates Motel and there was the house sitting menacingly behind with the mother's silhouette in the window.

Umm... Wow thats odd

1. Jamie Lee is proud of her momma, and shows it.

2. She's always had a wicked sense of humor.

3. Psycho is a permanent part of the pop-culture landscape, I'm still waiting for Psycho Cereal, Psycho Pops!, Psycho Crunch!, Tranny Grahams!

Well, it is Jamie Lee Curtis. Maybe she put it in for her mom.

I'm sure that's why she did it. It was pretty funny to see it in there.

That's awesome! I'm gonna get that for my kids...if I had kids.

If I ever have kids...

Sigh...

Did you explain to your kids what it was or are they to young for you to start introducing them to horror?

On a somewhat related note, children's author Lewis Carroll ( ALICE IN WONDERLAND etc ) is considered by some to have been THE Jack The Ripper ....

In THE AGONY OF LEWIS CARROLL and JACK THE RIPPER: Light Hearted Friend by Richard Wallace, the childern's author is portrayed as a mysognistic, murderous maniac ... The author goes into great detail about how Carroll actually used his stories and the cryptic anagrams to give details about the crimes , in particular, in SYLVIE AND BRUNO ....

Anyways, I should go back and read the books, they were fascinating , albeit unbelievable at times ....

It never did say where they went dammit.

No I didn't explain it to them. They're a bit too young.

Can you still find those books in print Boy?

Floyd, I just checked Amazon, and both are backordered BUT you can buy 'em from the used book dealers on Amazon ....... I've always had good experiences buying out of stock or used books there, Amazon is behind you eventhough you are buying the book from a 3rd party ....

Just type in "Jack The Ripper Light Hearted Friend" and "Agony Of Lewis Carroll" into the search .....

Now, the theories are out there, but the amount of research that went into them and the insane way Carroll is portrayed makes 'em fascinating .......
