I have it on DVD (R2-Universal's Asian Vision series, with DTS and very few extras), saw it a couple of weeks ago. I thought it was fantastic. If any of you haven't seen it I highly recommend that you do.
It has superb acting, a plot that moves briskly, a couple of really good twists. It feels pretty conventional (or American, if you will).
The only thing that should possibly keep people away is subtitles, and I've never been able to understand that.
The only thing that puzzles me is that Scorsese would want to remake it. It could be a "one for me, one for them" thing. But with source material this good he should be able to cook up something great.

I've been a fan since I saw Hard-boiled, I think he's a great actor. He seems to be in everything, though.
About the Time review: it might be something is lost in the translation, but I didn't think the little girl was his daughter. IMO, the ex-girlfriend/little girl scene is about his sacrifice: she has moved on with her life, he's stuck undercover. Either they have got it wrong or I have.
