White Noise

Didnt see another topic on this film called White Noise, so sorry if there is one. I just saw the trailer for it at the movies and it looked and sounded different and kind of creepy than other films out right now . There is a trailer for it online already and a website. It has to do with Electronic Voice Phenomenon which deals with ghosts who have been captured on audio recordings or pictures or vid cameras. Basically any electronic device which helps us(the living) see or hear from the dead. The movie stars Micheal (BATMAN) Keaton, and it seems his wife dies and he later hears an audio recording of her voice. Somehow he keeps trying to contact her and some other spirit or spirits start haunting his house. Basically I loved the trailer from beginning to end, especially when the voices of the ghosts are played at the beginning and at the end the guy says only some movies make u feel different after u have watched them. Very interesting.

Here it is:

This is the first I have heard about this film and this E.V.P. stuff kind of creeps me out.

There's an early (mixed) review from a test screening here: http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=18192

The only problem I see with this film is that its scheduled for a release in January 2005 and that month is usually considering a "dumping ground" for bad or weak movies. Here's hoping it turns out good and brings Keaton back into the spotlight.

White Noise

I saw the trailer at like 3 in the morning in the dark, and then felt weird going to bed afterward. I spoke to some people today about this movie. What I am going to like about this movie is that hopefully it makes people think and be more aware of things that might be out there. This one girl doesn't believe in ghosts, yet she thinks she saw one the other night. It made her think and second guess her not believing in spirits. So maybe alot of people who don't believe in spirits or ghosts will kind of think more about their beliefs after they see this movie. If it is good, I bet the night I watch it I'll be thinking about voices all around me everywhere I go, all the way to bed. Hopefully when i shut off the lights and I get a creepy feeling, then I know the movie served it's purpose.

I too saw this trailer today, and I was immediately interested. I have heard nothing about this film prior to this, but it does seem to show some promise. I'm a little bit disapointed about some of the things said in that AICN article; it sounds a bit like it might end up being more of a supernatural drama/thriller, whereas I was hoping it would be for straight up horror. The trailer actually gave me the impression that it might be somewhat in the vein of all the recent asian horror, but the review makes it sound more like Dragonfly, Frequency, or perhaps Mothman Prophecies than Ringu. The whole EVP concept is definately a nice touch though, however the film turns out. In the trailer, it adds a somewhat "real" element to the whole thing, and the examples of the ghostly voices were definately freaky. Also, was it just me or did the voice over in the trailer have just a little bit of an old school 60's/70's horror movie trailer kind of style? Especially with the line at the end, "The subject of some movies is so disturbing that those who view them will never be the same again" -it just has that great sensationalist style that trailers used to have.

Well, I believe in ghosts. I've heard about this EVP thing, and I think it's cool that they're making a movie out of it. The fact that they cast desperate-for-a-paycheck Michael Keaton in the role suggests that either they want this movie to be serious and intense (even though Keaton is a former stand-up, his recent work has been dour and downbeat, for the most part), or possibly that they want to make it on the cheap and are giving it no attention.

The trailer makes this movie look like it's halfway between a geuinely scary ghost story and a drama about lost love. We'll see.
