The Last Shot Discussion

I imagine not many people have seen this yet, as it only is opening in select cities starting today. I caught a screening though earlier this week thansk to the local newspaper and the movie really surprised me.

Obviously Baldwin and Broderick caught my eye when I heard about the movie, and the premise sounded funny (FBI gets into the movie biz as part of a sting operation, only without telling the wannabe director). But the way these two (and the other cast - Shaloub, Collette, Flockhart, and Cusack) execute the deadpan humor jokes is great. Baldwin is absolutely hilarious - and there are so many quotable jokes that I've been confusing my friends ever since I've seen it with references.

And the FBI agents are perfectly portrayed, as his the hollywood producer type by Cusack. Great Hollywood insider type satire that I think most people on here would appreciate.

Any body else want to weigh in?

The Hollywood Reporter said this was opening in 35 theaters today.

I am guessing it must be in the top 10 cities, as Atlanta is in the top 15 and we didn't get it and when I checked on Moviefone, Boston and Chicago were getting it in addition to NY and LA.

oh thanks - I was curious how wide it was opening. Think it will do well?

I hope it does. I'm interested in seeing it when it goes wider.

Just got back from this one & it's in my top ten this year. Unfortunately I too had to drive a ways to find it & I'm in LA. It really drives me nuts when they do this. The theater was respectably filled with an audience that actually picked up on the dark humor & most of the inside Hollywood/filmmaker jokes. Clever & quite interesting considering it is based on actual events. I'm now really interested in reading up on the story that this is about. It's no State & Main due to the absence of the Mamet touch but it comes quite close. Almost as if someone out there was taking notes...meticulous notes.

Also, some of the best title credits that I've seen in quite sometime. Won't be forgetting those anytime soon.

What city was it playing in, JenGe?

I may have to go and check this out.

Well, I'm in LA & I caught it at Sherman Oaks Galleria. There are several other places around here as well. You can find listings at Fandango or IMDb. It's a farce though when Fandango has it listed on their front page as "Now Playing Everywhere." (eyes rolling!!)

Sherman Oaks isn't that far from where I'm at (Glendale, near Burbank). Good to know.

Thanks.

I think that it's playing in Burbank as well. Sherman Oaks was closer for me.

Good call. MovieTickets.com didn't list anything anywhere near me, but Fandango did. Go figure. Thanks again, JenGe. I'll probably check this out tomorrow or Sunday (tonight is Shaun at the Arclight).

This came to Atlanta for ONE WEEK a couple of months back and unfortunately I missed seeing it.
