BLADE TRINITY Discussion - Page 2

Trinity Gay

This review hurts to write. I have been a huge fan of the Blade series and really was hoping to see the franchise end on an ass kicking foot. I thought that the Blade series would be a great trilogy and would be talked about long after the Matrix garbage that came out. Blade is still a better franchise, but doesn't deliver the knock out punch you want it to in Blade Trinity.

Blade Trinity is a mediocre action film at best. The first problem is, the plot is a decent one and should succeed on many levels but doesn't. It's executed with piss poor direction and really never amounts to anything. Blade vs. Dracula this should be the fight to end all fights right? WRONG! The movie starts fast and slows to a boring pace. I mean do we really need to see Jessica Biel shooting arrows at targets for 5 minutes or do we need to see Dracula go to a store that sells his merchandise? I mean come on people open you're fucking eyes. These are wasted screen time minutes that has nothing to do with the progression of the movie. I am sure people will like this film and say it's the best one they have ever seen. I just don't understand that.

Wesley Snipes is excellent as Blade as usually, but he can't control the plot of the film. He kicks some ass and deliveries his usually stick. Dominic Purcell is fucking horrible as Dracula. I thought he was the worse Dracula EVER! That's a lot to say considering I have seen Van Helsing . This fucking meathead is lucky to complete sentences in the film and is like giant fucking robot walking around the movie. I am sure they cast him because he's a big guy and he looks cool, but he's not nearly the villain that Deacon Frost is in the first film.

Second problem the night stalkers are fucking lame. Blade is an ass kicking machine and a lone gun. He doesn't need a fucking posse especially this one. They are pretty lame and seem to severe one purpose to bring the film down further. Jessica is acceptable, but really not needed. Her whole whistler angle was kind of weak and her screen time is a waste. They try to build her character through out the movie, but she really never amounts to much in the end. Ryan Reynolds is fucking horrible. He is supposed to be the smart ass guy that gets his ass kicked the whole film and makes fun of himself for it. He just pisses you off to no end. He is such a lame character, through out the film I keep wishing he would die.

Other random shit that pissed me off. The temple where they find Dracula its looks so fucking cheesy. I am supposed to believe there's a giant temple in Iraq that no one ever explored before? The Vampire Crew (the ones that dig up Dracula) they are retard in the tenth degree. You know it bad when Triple H delivers the best acting performance out of them. The vampire dogs THAT WAS FUCKING HORRIBLE. I was like you have to be fucking kidding me. That might be one of the gayest things I have seen in a movie. Dracula when he morphs into the devil looking dude. He looked so fucking stupid. I couldn't stop laughing at the gold chain and leather pants he had on when he was fighting Blade. Was he going to hit the club after kicking Blades ass?

This film is a sorry excuse to end a franchise on. It always pains me to see a good franchise end on a bad note. Oh well hopefully this review was helpful I suggest waiting to till DVD to see it.

BLADE TRINITY is no different.
They were also rather well written, well acted, well rythmed, had charismatic charecters (both heroes and villains), were directed by people who had a great visual sense and offered well shot and amazing action scenes. In that regard, Blade Trinity is indeed very different: it has none of the above.

I just hope the Nightstalkers learned their lesson. NEVER pick your Blind Team member to watch the surveillance cameras. That can only end in disaster.

[QUOTE=Andre Dellamorte]... it allows Ryan Reynolds to be the star of the film, which is fine by me. QUOTE]
Why is there so much homo love for Ryan Reynolds around these parts? Is there a large fanbase for Two Guys and a Pizza Place I'm unaware of? I just don't get it. The guy's patently unremarkable.
He made this and Van Wilder watchable. How's that homo love?

Just being facetious.
Well, let me start off by getting out of the way that Blade: Trinity is the weakest of the three films.

Blade is a series that stands apart from most other films for me. It is rare that I'll be forgiving to a film that doesn't take the time to give adequate characterization or above an IQ-39 plot. What the series has done to earn this standing is to hypnotize me and its legions of fans with a badassed title character who kicks vampire dick all over the place with style.

Norrington introduced us to the Blade character (Wesley Snipes) with breathtakingly inventive visuals; Del Toro continued to push the visual envelope in new, and innovative ways. However David Goyer has contented himself with simply giving us what has become "The Blade Status Quo," and this is a cardinal sin for a series that depends on the Wow-Factor of impressive new visual effects.

We've come to accept nothing but a shoestring plot, but what we do expect is crazy nightclub free-for-all ninja brawls and psycho-mutant reaper villains; Blade: Trinity provides neither. In fact, the scariest villain is a vampire poodle! Even the opening credits, which are a staple of the franchise, are edited, choreographed, and shot in a way that completely deflates any excitement that was intended.

As for the Big Bad (Dominic Purcell), Drakeula's played with all the panache of his on-screen vampire dildo counterpart. Call me a sadist but Dominic Purcell needs to be offed... NOW. Not only is he not very interesting but as viewers will ultimately find out, he's not all that bad. And don't get me started on IPod's; I'm sticking to my RCA Lyra strictly out of principle from now on.

What the film has going for it though are funnies, and lots of them. Hannibal King (Ryan Reynolds) is a riot and half, and then some. Whenever the guy was on screen my full bladder had to work overtime. For a guy who thinks Wesley Snipes is a dink, he has incredible on-screen chemistry with him. And it's with Reynolds' presence that Blade: Trinity manages to stay afloat. I won't spoil any of the jokes for you, but I can tell you that your $11 is worth it just to see the man at work.

Jessica Biel... oh Jessica Biel. She's hot; what can I say? The woman is all buffed out and kicking ass all over the place, but who isn't in this movie? Let's see, Wesley Snipes is Blade; enough said. Ryan Reynolds is funny; check. Jessica Biel listens to an IPod. "One dolla" to whoever can see what's wrong there. I'd love to see a Nightstalkers movie, but unless Biel grows a personality and perhaps runs around naked all the time, I'll pass.

Goyer seems to have gone fanboy on us here folks. As a director he no longer has anyone with brains standing over his shitty scripts saying XYZ has to be cut. SOMEBODY TAKE AWAY HIS CHAIR! David Goyer has abosolutely no idea how to shoot action or any know-how in the editing room, opting instead to shoot everything in a hyperkinetic closeup MTV style. CHUD buddy Guillermo Del Toro got it best with his lively style. Also, Wesley Snipes is a phenomenal martial artist and the first two films showcase his abilities as a strength to hold the films up. Trinity... well you get the picture.

This film is recommended only for the fans. On a scale of 10, I give Blade: Trinity a:

6.5/10

which is not all that bad considering I rarely give 9's and 10's. An extra point is included because Ryan Reynolds kicks bottom. Bring on Blade: foursome, but leave Goyer somewhere deep, dank and, dark, and bring back Guillermo.
When they finally let Goyer direct, I was extremely worried. I can unfortunately say that he fulfilled every one of my fears.

Sucky action with none of the granduer or beauty of the previous two films? Check. Stupid dialogue that even Norrington and Del Toro had the good sense to trim? Check. Overall, all the worst elements of the previous two expanded and multiplied to make up an entire film.

Drake? He sucked almost from the start, but when he started walking down the street in slow mo with techno music and the open shirt, I nearly lost it laughing. Parker Posey is amazingly terrible, easily besting Roxburgh in "Van Helsing" which is no easy task. The action is too quick cut, nowhere near as well choreographed, and nowhere near as grand as the second and even first films.

Now, its still Blade and there was still some stuff to like. Wesley Snipes, when he wants to be, is still perfect for this role. Jessica Biel is pretty much interchangeable with a lot of actresses, but I liked her physicality and swagger in her opening ass kicking. The end sword fight comes close to being pretty darn good, and when they flirted with it, I liked the idea of Blade colliding with the real world. His opening fight is pretty good, especially the uncut shooting of the guy in the back.

Ryan Reynolds is good, definitely a Jason Lee/Brad Pitt hybrid. While Goyer again lets his own shitty dialogue get WAY too much play, a few of them work and its probably only a guy like Reynolds who can actually make them work.

All in all, a disappointment following the first two. But its still Blade, there's still some coolness to enjoy, and while the series definitely needs a better finale (what's with the pseudo-Road Warrior send off?), I think it'll grow on me with repeat viewings and lowered expectations.
I forgot to ask, why does Struggling Pornstar Dracula shape shift into BLADE at the end?
So that the FBI will think Blade's dead, and stop looking for him.

I liked this. Of coures, I really, really, REALLY didn't like the 2nd one, and I really loved the first, so I thought that this was an improvement. The second one had too much CGI, it's like they were afraid to show some real people fighting. Yeah, it had wonderfully coreographed fights, but that's because they were all CGI. This one actually has real people doing the fighting, so I liked the action better. So that's my opinion, I liked it, but only because I thought it was an improvement over the 2nd one.

Well that was a total waste, since Dracula changes back into himself in front of all the FBI guys.
The ending feels like a serious rush job, and completes nothing. Why bother calling this the final film when you tie uo nothing, give no sense of closure, or even attempt to show what might come later? Its just a "Road Warrior" esque voiceover about Blade still being out there. What about the virus? What about the Nightstalkers? What about anything? Sloppy.
I thought the first half or so of the movie was very choppy, both in editing and storytelling, but then the last half wasn't bad. The best scenes of the movie were with Ryan Reynolds and, dare I say, Triple H. It's definiltey my least favorite of the 3 movies. My wife liked it better than 2, but mainly because she didn't like all the gore of that one (which is why most people liked it, I think). The dialogue at times was very hokey, but it is a movie character/universe based on a comic book, so I kind of gave that a pass. I'll be interested to see Reynolds in the Amityville Horror movie, because I assume he'll be going from a happy, fun-loving guy to a deranged psychopath by the end of the movie (not unlike Van Wilder).
I guess it was OK. Definitely the weakest entry. Both this and part 2 had ideas that were good, but never fulle realized, and too many characters.

In part 2 we see the badass vamps that are there to hunt Blade. We are supposed to believe they are because they look like trouble. It was a great idea, but just these fuckers hunting Blade and doing all kinds of shit to get him and take him down would've have been an interesting film. There were too many of these guys, and they are all supposed to be as good as Blade, but a lot of them just whimpered and died off-screen, with the exception of Hellboy.

In part 3 we find the Nightstalkers. Another good idea here. A collection of sleeper cells that activate when another goes down, stepping in to pick up the slack and kick vamp ass. That sounds like a good film, hopefully that angle can be explored by Goyer or someone. This cell was weak as fuck. A blind chick with a fucking kid? At the least I was expecting her to pull a sword out of that cane and put up some kind of fight. The little fat dude as a tech dude? That fucking U-ray bow looking thing was ass, by the time it unfolds you'd be on the floor all fucked up. Blade had Whistler, who was old and gimpy, but was still able to wreck shit if it came to their doorstep. These guys couldn't do a fucking thing.

Why the Reaper dogs? That was silly as shit. Reynolds was OK, but with all the fuss about him, he really didn't get into too many tussles to prove his metal. Biel is hot, but she could've been a little better during her fight scenes. Snipes is Blade, but he was only in half of the movie. When Drac morphed from Purcell into that whatever, I thought Blade was going to say "You are one ugly mutherfucker.".

Overall, I could go on and talk about all the shortcomings. I really enjoyed the other Blade films, but this one was so weak, I was dissappointed. One of the things I did like, was that Goyer didn't use the CG stuntmen as much as del Toro. I wasn't crazy about that in Part 2.

I just took that to mean that they would figure that Blade was never real, just a "mask" of this white guy wants to use when he wants to do crazy stuff. Of course, they gotta realize that the world isn't as they think it is, because this guy's body just morphed into someone else's, but what do you want. It's an action movie.

Definately didn't like it as much as the first, but liked it better than the second. A good "middle quality" film.
Too much music video and product placement, not enough movie. That will be all.
It wasn't great, but it was an entertaining way to pass a few hours in the afternoon. Honestly, Ryan Reynolds was the highlight for me. I wasn't expecting that much humor. Also, I guess I'm in the minority in liking Drake. Maybe I still have a soft spot in my heart for Purcell because I was one of three people who watched and liked John Doe. And what has happened to Parker Posey? She's not famous or established enough to do self-parody ala Jack Nicholson.
I had fun watching it. And to me that's all that matters. Although I will add my hatred for Parker Posey. She fucking sucked in this movie. When your performance gets beaten by a wrestler, it's time to re-evaluate.
I see so much praise for Triple H's role, but from the trailers his role looks like the typical big dumb bodyguard guy that has about no dialogue except stuff like "I'll crush you" etc. so exactly what was great with him? Or was he just as intimidating as Kevin Nash / The Russian in The Punisher ?

Could anyone explain a little bit, what was that good with him ?
I thought he was monumentally average, despite the strange positive hype about him. He's a fine henchman, but given that each and every member of the Bloodpack from "Blade II" is a thousand times better, its tough to give him much praise. He has some typically stupid Goyer-isms, and he's got some pretty lame fight sequences with Reynolds that are just toned down wrestling moves and taking turns punching each other in the face. I think he gets a lot of the high marks for simply making you forget, if only for an instant, that he's a wrestler and not an actor. In short, he gets points for showing up, actually getting to say some lines, and not sucking.
I saw this last night and I gotta say that I...kinda liked it. Now the first two Blade films are minor classics and have certainly gotten a sort of cult following that is well deserved I would say. Is this film as good as the others? No...but it sure as shit is not a flat out bad movie as some people say. Personally I don't think the action sequences were as muddled as some may have found them. I thought the opening fight/chase sequence was one the best things about the movie. I also thought the ending was more climactic than in Blade 2, one of the few areas this film exceeds Del Toro's sequel. I really liked the addition of Biel(insert Homer Simpson drool here) and Reynolds. He really does steal many of his scenes. Again, some people say that Blade feels like a sidekick in his own movie and I don't agree with that either. He still IS the center of attention. In fact I thought I read somewhere that the actual time Blade is on screen is only like three or four minutes less than in the other movies. Yeah Parker Posey hams it up WAY too much, Dominic Purcell is bland as Dracula, but thankfully he is not involved all that much. Triple H is most certainly unimpressive in this movie. What other people saw in his role I don't. The Rock he is not. Basically I think that while this is the most flawed of the trilogy I think it is worth a look...and don't agree that it is anywhere close to being as bad as other third installments in superhero franchises as some have stated(not on this board per se) like Batman Forever or ...ugh...Superman 3.
Overall IMO-A Generous 7/10
(Blade-8, Blade 2-7.5)
Overall Blade 3 was an entertaining film. But I do have a few issues with it. I loved the Hannibal King character but I think he had way too many oneliners. Abigal and Hannibal for the most part didn't seem to have a problem fighting vamps in hand to hand combat eventhough the vamps as established in the first two films are much more stronger than humans. The whole Ipod thing killed me, would you really want to go into combat with somebody whose got loud music pumping through their ears?? But I like I said the film was still lots of fun. I loved the vampire pooches!
Richard Roxbury & Domenic Purcell need to go back to gay porn.

Only 2 good things in this entire movie

1. Jessica's hip hugger pants

2. Blade giving the FBI guy 20 seconds to run then counting 1.2.3.20! Shooting him in the back.
Terrible. Very disappointing. Reynolds' smart-ass just about the only high point.
Okay, I've seen the flick now three times and I'll tell you what. The first time, I was heavily disappointed. Now?

Blade: Trinity is absolutely GREAT. In an 80ies Commando style.

It's such a great symbiose of serious action and super stupidity, the sound is fucking great and the actors absolutely nail their roles. Parker Posey (who I hated in Scream 3) is brilliant as the thundercunt, it's a frickin joy seeing Blade kicking all sorts of ass with his samurai discipline- Jessica convinces and looks hot at the same time and Van Wilder's oneliners are bad. And get better each time. The first time you go WTF? like he goes when he sees the vampire pomeranian - just like the audience after seeing the flick for a first time. Whistler's lines are pure GOLD, the vampire dogs scene is WTFtastic (wasn't that the same set from the Catwoman showdown? - geekgasm),

Of course Dracula sucks. A medieval superpimp whimp that runs away and tries to out-Riddick Vin Diesel, how cool is that ? "Are you ready?" "I was born ready, motherfucker!" "Motherfucker? I like that!"

The only thing that still sucks is Natasha Lyonne as a blind (!) computer programmer. Even Triple H as one H enchman is good in a Bond right hand villain style.

Just don't expect a serious or cool Blade flick. Expect a super campy oneliner fest with "ridiculous cocksuckerpunch" written all over it. You'll love it.

Best popcorn flick of the year.
While I would not say it is the best popcorn flick of the year I enjoyed it, and grow fonder of it the more I think about it. It is certainly a different Blade film, and I feel it is a shame that more people are not giving it a shot at the theater. At least it will likely do boffo business on the DVD market.
what a piece of shit, whereas the first one was a heroin-chic, cold-blooded, style-fest (sorry if that sentence was an over-wrought, hyphen-overload), and the second was a grand, euro-gothic comic book bloodbath, this was a flat, lifeless, cheap looking mess .and it seems it was made completely without a production designer, cause there were no cool sets or style anywhere to be seen, the fight between triple H and reynolds seemed like it took place in someone's garage. oh and how about the ever human-loving whistler, who blows away twenty innocent police officers with multiple shotguns just to avoid being arrested. or that blade's last line in the movie was "motherfucker!" and then the movie went on another 15 minutes without another word from him. yeah great way to end the whole thing. the first two also had villains that were worth even acknowledging the existence of. dracula was so lame and uninspired, and at the end went from looking like a soul calibur character to an angel bad-guy. if this movie was good for one thing it was making the first two look like citizen kane in comparison.

yeah i kinda didnt like it.
I expected an awful film and thats not what I got. It was more enjoyable than I thought it'd be. Still its clearly the weakest of all the movies and a dissapointing capper to the series.

The good

-first 10 minutes
-Snipes as always nails this character and oozes coolness.
-Reynolds who was funny
-Biel who looked good and looked good and shot arrows decently

The bad

-Biel dancing with men and throwing Mike Tyson like fisticuffs trying to knockout people twice her size it was laughable and ridiculous. Buffy would have been proud no doubt.

-Pace felt quite off and the slowness of the middle took a lot of the momentum outa the film.
-Dracula they tried to pull it off but it didn't work clearly if Del Toro was the director the character would have worked better.
-Goyer's direction..too much music..too many editing tricks..not enough wide angle shots.. list goes on and on and he was clearly over his head here.
-The Action again Goyer's fault but it deserves its own mention because the first two set a high standard that only the Matrix films (in some ways) achieved. At least on US shores with a US production. Jeff Ward didn't come through however its possible the editing and camera angles ruined the MA sequences as well.
-The contact lenses they just stood out way too much.

Again I came away from this surprised but still letdown a bit. Supposedly Goyer had the whole Blade being hunted story for awhile and then fused that with the Dracula/Nightstalkers storyline and it just didn't come off. I liked the other idea of Blade surviving and the vamps ruling everything in a post apocolyptic Mad Max like world.
I just couldn't get over how much Dominic Purcell reminded me of Colin Farrell, I kept thinking Colin's in the wrong fucking film.

I enjoyed parts of Blade 3, the fight scene's were good and I agree with you on Biel's physical performance, her first fight scene was pretty good but by the end, she looked kind of stiff.
Purcell gets a pass from me. He wasn't anything close to Deacon Frost or Nomak for that matter but considering how Goyer handled things he could have been much worse. Roxburgh was worse and to say otherwise means some weren't paying attention to Van Helsing. Dracula didn't work at all but I thought Purcell did what he could and I too thought " WTF! " at him grabbing the baby.

Yeah Biel's intro was fine but way too much brawling for her. They should have just made her a vampire cuz her hands wouldn't be working after the punch combos she was landing throughout.
Oh definitely, Roxburgh is a ton worse than Purcell. The Drake character is written terribly, with dialogue I don't think anyone could make decent. Add on the gay wardrobe and there's not much the poor guy could have done.
wow...best non-intentional comedy of the year.

Did anyone else stay to the end of the credits and see the extra 5 seconds? I didn't get it....WORD? Bwuh?
Liked it, but it had its problems.

I thought the complaints that "Ryan Reynolds stole the show" was nonsense, though. King was a thinly realized character, and Reynolds' delivery wasn't all that hot, either. I liked Biel more, but thought the pair made decent sidekicks.
I thought it was pretty horrible. I liked the first two, I like corny movies, but this just had nothing, except the gratuitous Jennifer Beal shower scene.

It just felt like a SCI-FI Channel\MTV production. It's like they thought, "Hey, if we make a scene in slow-motion and put loud music to it, its gotta be cool!" Well, no, they were wrong.
Gratuitous? It lingered a bit long sure but there wasn't any nudity or any of Jennifer Beals either sadly.
Maybe I imagined her breasts in there somewhere.......there was ass though!

It was an unneeded scene in the whole scheme of things, I thought. Then again, there was about an hour and a half of unneeded scenes in that movie.
No doubt it was unneeded and overwrought the same could be said for many a film.
I just saw the movie and I have to say....it was decent. Like everyone else has said, it's definently the weakest of the 3 but not a totally bad movie (at least not to me). The ending was all wrong, and is the biggest let down for me. They make it seem as if there's going to be a sequel, but there won't be. I like Norrington's style the best because Blade 1 was definently the darkest in the Trilogy.

7/10...oh and don't hire David S. Goyer. He'll just fuck it all up!
