I just moved into my first house last weekend. And yes, you are now owned by the bank. The good news is....well, you own your place. No more crazy landlady to drive you nuts.
My advice for moving?
Start packing now. Sort through and toss anything you haven't used in the last couple of years, if not less time.
Find a moving company with a solid rep, especially one on the local Better Busniess Bureau. Make sure they give you a decent quote. The company I used had given us a quote of three to four hours tops. When they got here they said 'probably a six hour job, plus a hour for transit to the new place'.
My wife and I immediately knew we were screwed, but we had no other choices. We pitched in and kept up with the two mover guys and actually got it all done--loading and unloading--in three hours plus the travel time. Granted, everything but the heavy furniture ended up shoved into the garage. But at 72 bucks an hour, we couldn't afford to quibble.
Comics and other collectables don't seem that cool after you've hauled your twenty fifth copy paper box load of them down stairs.
