Who's got satellite radio? - Page 2

I'm shopping for a new car, and I'm seriously considering getting satelitte radio. Most of the time when I drive, it's to make long trips, so with AM/FM everytime I leave an area, I have to search around for a new station every 2 hours, and most of them suck. What specialty programming does XM or Sirius offer? Someone told me one of them had some Stand-Up comedy channels, which would be tight, an occasional alternative to music on those long trips. I've been thinking about getting a Dodge Magnum, because I think it's a pretty sweet looking ride, and they offer Sirius with it as one of the addtional options you can get. If I do get a Magnum, is this an option that people think is worth getting?

XM has a great comedy station, IMO. Lots of variety programming that I've never gotten tired of.

That would be my exact reasoning for buying this I think. All the sport game options, plus ESPN radio...that would make road trips oh so different.

I have XM and I love it. I love the sport channels. But the only thing is, I dont keep up with college football. And every saturday, they have chanels devoted to covering college ball. I do love NFL though. But unfortunately, Sirius is the company with the NFL deal. But despite that, I love XM.

Yeah, it's a beautiful thing. Not sure if you can get scores on the other devices, though.

I got the service for sirius and the novelty of hearing curses on the radio was worn off quickly by listening to five minutes of Jim Bruer's radio show.

The Wiseguy show with Big Pussy was funny.

I like the BBC news channel, the hip hop channels suck but the NFL and Howard Stern will make it worth it.

I'm getting my XM radio receiver tomorrow. I can't freakin' wait. It's the new Delphi MyFi personal XM player. The kit comes with the player (which can play completely independant of any car/home kit, like a walkman) a car kit, and a home kit (and antennae for both, of course). Wireless FM modulator and a built in antenna, so you don't even really need the car/home kits, but they'll give you a little bit better audio quality, so I plan on at least using the home kit, since I can plug it directly into my A/V receiver. It's gonna be freakin' sweet. I can't wait until next spring/summer when they start carrying every MLB game all season--including spring training. Baseball on road trips is the greatest. We have one plugged up at work, and I love the jazz stations and the classical stations.

I'm going to actually listen to the radio again. SWEEET!

I got XM over the holidays. I have all the parts, but I have to wait for the install. I got a Sony CDX-F7700 car deck that will control the XM stations as well as play mp3s burned onto a disc. It also has an additional input to hook up my portable mp3 player if I want to. Can't wait to get it installed, the bastards at Best Buy ran out of the car install dash kits that I need.

Thanks billy, I was trying to find it locally, but so far no luck, so I may have to order it after all.

I went ahead and ordered it. It seems that everybody around me has the same kind of car that I do and just got a new radio for Christmas.

So i'm reporting back. I'm really loving it. There are a few gripes but I think one has to do with my radio and not the service.

My gripe about the Cinemagic station is that is just lists the name of the film and not the name of the track. For most people, that's probably not a big deal, but for a nerd like me, it kinda bugs. They sometimes run "themes" and I caught a good theme of Hitchcock films with Psycho, North by Northwest and Vertigo scores. Other than that gripe, it's a pretty good channel. The little snips of dialogue are fun too sometimes.

My other favorite channel is the Comedy XL station, which plays uncensored bits of stand-up comedy. A lot of guys I don't know, but they've had some classic Pryor, Carlin, and Dangerfield bits on there.

Between those two channels, I haven't tried too many others yet.

I've had XM for about 6 months. I got it for the sports talk and some commercial free music, but lately i've started to explore a little more. Been giving the Comedy Xl and some of the business (CNBC & Bloomberg) a listen.
