The Stand

Anyone here a fan of the steven king TV mini series? I got the dvd. It wasn't the greatest thing I've seen. After the first chapter, I was expecting something else. It turned out a lot more tame then I thought. Some really dated effects and WAY too much dream analysis stuff.

Acting was good here and there. I didn't like the Rob Lowe Character.

What do you guys think of it?

I didn't like how they made the devil out to be a redneck with a mullet.

I actually read the book for the first time while the mini-series was going on.. I watched the first installment, then picked it up and read it, finishing it before the last installment was broadcast.

For the volume of material they had to cover, the mini-series didn't do all that bad a job. Miguel Ferrer and Bill Fagerbakke were good, plus Matt Frewer always does an excellent job and Walston and Sinise really worked well on screen together.

The female leads (San Giacomo and Ringwald) were very uneven. I expected better from Corin Nemec and didn't get it (with the exception of the disco demolition scene in the basement) and Jamey Sheridan was just OK, but he was hampered by those outdated effects you mentioned.

I still have the original VCR tapes and break them out every now and then, mostly to watch the first and the last installments. I guess eventually I should get the DVD, just to save room.

I think they did an excellent job with the mini-series. Considering what they were adapting. Now King's The SHining mini-series was a total POS.

I loved it and not just because I did some work on it. I thought that the acting was very good in it for the most part. I liked the book better, but isn't that the way it usually turns out? I agree that some of the effects were pretty dated, but it is over 10 years old and was made for television. This was before they could do so much with computers. Overall, I was very pleased with the way it came out.
