THE DAY YOU'VE BEEN WAITING FOR (and other exciting news)

(Update to original entry: I've removed the information on the $200 lettered edition, because they sold out in 4 hours)

News Item #1: I am happy to announce that I'll be joining the Cemetery Dance team as Associate Editor of Grave Tales. If you're into comic books, you'll dig this mag. For complete details, don't miss this Wednesday's Cemetery Dance Weekly.

News Item #2: Pre-orders are now being taken for both City of the Dead (the sequel to The Rising) and Sympathy For The Devil: The Best of Hail Saten Vol. 1. And check this out--pre-order both City of the Dead ($50.00 limited edition) and Sympathy For the Devil ($60.00 limited edition) through Delirium Books for only $80.00. Save $30.00! This offer is only available for a limited time and only available through the Delirium.

Now, here's a bit more about each book:

CITY OF THE DEAD

In 2003, Delirium Books published The Rising, the first novel by then newcomer Brian Keene. Since its publication, critics have hailed The Rising as "a major horror novel" and Keene as "the next Stephen King." The Rising went on to win the Bram Stoker Award and became Delirium’s quickest selling title to date.
It also left readers worldwide asking, "What happens next?"

In January 2005, Delirium Books will present the answer to that question, with the publication of City of the Dead. This long awaited sequel to The Rising picks up where the first book left off, and immediately raises the stakes—and the horror.

Trapped inside a fortified skyscraper, humanity makes its last stand against an unstoppable, unforgiving, and undying enemy. The terror mounts with every page as they face overwhelming odds and dwindling numbers. Welcome to New York City—population eight million zombies. Welcome to…the City of the Dead.

1/300 Limited, Signed Hardcovers $50.00
(There are no unsigned hardcovers only 300 total. And the paperback doesn't come out for months and months after the hard cover.)

Here’s what the critics had to say about The Rising and Brian Keene:

"(The Rising is) the most brilliant and scariest book ever written. Brian Keene is the next Stephen King."
—The Horror Review

"The Rising is an absolutely kick-ass, mega-page turning zombie reinvention novel. Flamboyantly violent, action-packed, and verbally straight-up on delivering the goods."
—John Skipp-Editor of Book of the Dead 1 & 2

"An apocalyptic epic packed with violence, gore, scares and moral dilemmas. Brian Keene has given zombies their next upgrade. The Rising signals the arrival of a major new horror novelist."
—Cemetery Dance

"The Rising is more terrifying than anything currently on the shelf or screen."
—Rue Morgue

"Brian Keene has raised the living dead to a profound new level. A prodigious talent—The Rising takes a bite from beginning to end and you're hooked!"
—Ken Foree, Star of Dawn of the Dead

"The Rising is chock full of gore and violence…an apocalyptic epic."
—Fangoria

So anyone who wants to read it way early hurry and get a copy less then 100 left and they just went onsale yesturday afternoon.

Just another note. I looked up on Ebay and found a copy of The Rising hardcover going for over $500!

I saw one a couple of months ago go for over $350! Thats fucked up. I have mine right here #95.

Funny thing is i got my copy from a used book store through Amazon for $53 in June. The paperback is sold out too though. They go for like 3 times cover price right now.

I was very disappointed by THE RISING.

Zombies with guns? Zombies that talk?

No thanks.

I can understand Griffith's contempt of the "smart" zombies in "The Rising", I've 50 pages from the end and it's still kind of hard to come to grips with zombies that calculate.
I prefer even the "sprinting" zombies of the DAWN-remake. I thought it gave them more of an animalistic quality that was pretty cool.
But THE RISING is still a pretty kick-ass book regardless.

I liked The Rising, but as with the DOTD remake, I had to pigeonhole it as a non-zombie work in my mind. Liked the brutal ending, though.

i didnt like the smart zombie idea either, but the way it's explained makes sense and i was pretty much into it by the end of the book, and i want more

I don't like how they only have a limited release for the HC and then have the paperback so far away. I would gladly pay the higher price of a HC over a paperback since they last longer and I love reading my books multiple times. Ahh well, it's better I have to wait since I still haven't read Jonathan Strange and about 3 more books.

They're not run of the mill zombies. They're evil entities that can only infest a dead host. Its explained well and its not a new take, its a different idea.

I just love this book.

oh and by the way the final price was $541.61

I'm tempted to sell, no book is worth this much.
Maybe i'll put both up on Ebay and see how much they can get together. (after i read the second one of course)
