Puppetmaster Vs. the Demonic Toys finally a reality!

So I was over at Dread Central and I spotted this
http://www.horrorchannel.com/dread/m...rticle&sid=239

Now I know some of you don't really care but as a fan of this cheesey series(in case you couldn't tell) I couldn't be more excited. I am a little worried about taking control from Charles Band but lets face it it's not like he's a genius anyway. I think this could be really fun although i think I will wait for the DVD because you know scifi is going to cut it to shit. Anyway anone else been waiting for this?

I am with you, Puppet Master.

I've been waiting for this movie for 12 years, I'm glad my wait will be over in 24 days. I'll be watching it on Sci Fi, because I doubt it'll get cut too much, I'm hoping it will do well enough that Sci Fi will produce more Puppet Master movies in the future, and I just don't want to have to wait for a DVD that doesn't have a release date yet.

I got in contact with Jeff Farley, who did effects on the movie and sent in that "first look" to Fangoria back in September, and asked him some of the questions I've seen fans of the series' asking. Being a cool guy, he answered them. (His answers in bold.)

Was Charles Band involved with the film, or are the rumors that he sold his rights to Sci Fi true?

Charlie wasn't involved at all. He sold the franchise to Sci Fi. If this one gets good ratings, they'll produce more films in the series.

It's not listed on the MPAA website yet, what rating do you think it would get? Is it gory? Is Baby Oopsy Daisy as foul mouthed as ever?

It would probably get a hard PG-13 (or soft R). Baby Oopsy does have some choice dialogue (He does refer to himself as a "Mr. Harry Balls" during a phone call), but probably not as foul as the previous two films.Ted did write some pretty funny stuff for him to say though. There's not much gore, but there is one gore effect that should make it in. There is a bit of sexual inuendo, though.

What Puppets and Toys appear?

On the side of the puppets:

A) Six-Shooter/Cyber Six-Shooter.
B) Pinhead/Cyber Pinhead.
C) Blade/Cyber Blade.
D) Jester/Cyber Jester.

On the Demonic Toys side:

A) Baby Oopsy.
B) Grizzly.
C) Jack-In-The-Box.

Where is it set?

It is supposed to take place in Los Angeles I believe, though shooting in Sofia brought it's own flavor. We shot most of it on sound stages, with some shooting around locations in Sofia.

How humorous is it?

The script was pretty funny. This, being my third PUPPET MASTER film in a row, probably had the best script (Ted being a great writer) of the 3 (well, RETRO PUPPET MASTER had a good script, it's just that half of it didn't get shot). It doesn't have that "Oh god, the puppets are out to kill us, so there's nothing to do but die" feeling. Humor is sorely needed in films of this nature.

Is there any connection to the previous movies, beyond Corey Feldman's character being the great-nephew of the original Puppet Master?

There is a distant connection to the other films, but it's not really in the forefront. There has been a new "history" written to explain how the puppets are brought to life. I never really cared for the egyptian angle.

How much Puppet vs Toys action should we expect to see?

There will be some fun stuff between the puppets and toys, but to be honest, I feel that the short shooting schedule tempered a bit of the action. We had to simplify some of the action, due to shooting most of the film in practical locations. I have been told by those who have seen the film, that the puppets and toys look great.

Thanks for your interest in the show. I hope we do okay by the fans, because we're never out to short-change anyone. I am proud of what we accomplished for the time and money we had. The fact that we were able to re-design the puppets and toys to certain extent made me happy, because I don't want to rehash the work of others.

Let me know what you think of it. Thanks!

hmm some of that sounds bad. Im a little disappointed it's not R, and im definetly pissed they dumped the egyption angle. I mean it was featured so god damned heavily in the other flicks I don't know how they could dump it. Yet still I MUST see it for it is puppet master vs. the demonic toys. Heres hoping it's not as bad as alien vs. predator.

For Full Moon fans I posted this at Dread Central this morning. The new Full Moon site is re-releasing some classics on DVD. I'm especially excited about PuppetMaster 1-2-3 and they also include the old Charles Band Video Zone pieces.

Personally, I wanna see WISHMASTER VS. LEPRECHAUN. Don't you know that Leprechauns and Genies are mortal enemies?

well just watched it and sure enough it sucked ass. Puppets had no personality, they looked different, there was almost no fight scenes, they changed they puppets origin story around while still trying to keep some intact. In short it was a lame ass story with an even lamer fight sequence at the end involving cory feldman fist fighting. Oh and did anyone even see feldmans acting? What the fuck was that?!!! Damnit I knew it wasn't gonna be good but fuck it should of been cheesey good. Christ im gonna have to change my name now.

I agree w/ you PMFan. I watched it and thought it really started sucking by the 2nd hour. And, yeah, Feldman's acting wasn't even funny. Real annoying. That voice was retarded.

The special FX were a step down from the Full Moon productions. I always liked the way the puppets looked walking and moving in the previous films. Here, they were pretty awful.

lord have mercy, this was easily one of the worst movies I ever saw. the FX were "special" all right--short bus special. it was so low rent, I bet they paid Feldman in food stamps. the editing, blocking, and timing in the various so-called action sequences was unbelievably, tediously wrong. I got some enjoyment out of just how shitty this movie was, but it would be better it if came standard with a derisive, MST3000-type commentary track built right in. it was also a mistke for Sci-FI to screen other "real" puppetmaster movies right after showing this turd because that only highlighted that the other ones were masterpieces compared to this.

Ever since I saw the first commercial for this I was excited and couldn't wait to see it. But, as an avid Sci-fi viewer, I knew to keep my expectations "bottom of the barrel" low. So with that in mind, I wasn't too horrorified by the movie. It had it's moments. But Baby Ooopsy really should have ripped that chick's nipple off!!!

I liked Darth Maul's brother. Though I would love to have seen him rip into a girl or two.

The acting. Firstly, why didn't they just cast an older dude to play the dad? I'm not knocking Corey at all here, it's just that if he was to be the girls dad, they should've just had an older dude. Kudos to Corey, glad he found some work.

As far as the "bad acting" goes, there's only one person to point the finger at here, The Director. Corey's no Harrison Ford, and Vanessa's no Meg Ryan. But I"ve seen them both perform way better than this. It's kind of what I like to call "Star Wars Syndrome" here. With "The Phantom Menace" and "Attack of the Clones" reviewers and some fans alike complain about the acting. Natalie, Ewan, Samuel, and Liam are all well established actors. And are constanty praised for thier work by critics and award shows. "Their performances are "wooden" at best," claimed critics.

So, knowing these actor's track record, who's to blame. The Director. In the case of Lucas, that's how he wanted the characters portrayed. This guy? Who knows.

Watching the first hour of this last night finally proved that there is no Santa Claus. This, coupled with the dreadful "Earthsea", solidifies my opinion that "Sci-Fi Original Presentation" is barely a step up from an Ed Wood film.

My review is now online.

Just be warned. It is less a review than an angry, bile-filled tirade against what may very well be the single worst movie I have subjected myself to all year.

The Foywonder annihilates PUPPET MASTER VS. DEMONIC TOYS

PMvsDT

Having watched the movie 6 times now, I can say that I enjoy it pretty well.

I can't say it was exactly what I was expecting, but I do think that, overall, it's a fun installment in the Puppet Master series, along the lines of 4 and 5.

It's basically all new on the Demonic Toys side of things, though, and the Toys are completely and quickly made the Puppets' bitches. The Puppets had more trouble with the Totems and Dollman had a lot more trouble with the Toys. I thought the Toys were good, though. I loved Jack's new eyeball-exploding scream ability. Baby could've farted a little less, he seemed to be trying too hard to prove his "I can shit my pants" line from DT1. Grizzly could've done... something... but oh well.

New, odd things are added to the PM continuity, but it's hard to complain when the continuity is already a "fill in the holes yourself" mess. (Jean Paul Toulon in the Renaissance? Maybe we'll get a "REALLY Retro Puppet Master".)

Corey Feldman pretty much acted the way I expected, but I was fearing he'd be much more campy and over the top than he was. At this level, I thought he was funny and he had me laughing throughout most of the movie. And that's not just because I was drinking the first time and got pretty well buzzed while I was watching it, because my buzz had worn off by the repeat viewings.

It seemed like Silvia Suvadova had been dubbed, along with some other characters. At least the dubbing was much better here than it was in Retro.

Anyway, my bottom line - I thought the movie was fun, it was nice having the Puppets and Toys together in the same movie, but I wish there had been more vs in this vs. I'm glad it finally got made, though. This will be in my DVD collection whenever it comes out on DVD and I hope to see the Puppets again sooner than later.

This movie was bad, but I've seen quite a few Full Moon Productions in my day, so I can't say that this one was the worst I've ever seen. I still think Blood Dolls takes that prize. Then again, Oblivion was pretty bad too (actually, almost all of them are bad).
Most Full Moon movies were bad but most were at least tolerable until they started making movies that weren't even complete movies, but just the stretched out first part of a two-part story arc. Only problem is the story arc was only big enough for one film, not two.

However, if you want to talk about truly unwatchable Full Moon movies then ARCADE immediately springs to mind. If not for some most welcomed gratuitous nudity, MERIDIAN would win hands down as it is one of the dullest movies I've ever seen.
I've never seen Arcade or Meridian, but I'll definitely check them out when I have some time. I don't know what it is about Full Moon films, but I always find myself watching them. I guess they're guilty pleasures, but I find myself disappointed most of the time. Any one ever see Shrunken Heads? Ugh...........
