6th Sense. Question about plot

Hey there. Yes I know this movie has been talked about to death but I recently watched it again and I've got an interesting question.

*****spoilers (yes It's old I know but..)**********

At the end, we find out Malcom is dead. Now, one thing got me thinking. Did Malcom not realize something was wrong when his wife went for weeks without talking to him... or ANYONE else talking to him for that matter. Secondly, how did he get Cole as a patient? How did they meet?

I guess it doesn't really matter. My question for all of you is did it matter? Did the obvious plot holes and leaps of logic bother you in anyway or hinder your enjoyment of this movie? Were you able to look past them? Further more, do you think it matters? There are plot holes. so what.

Do you think a horror/thriller movie can be successful dispite plot holes as long as it has sympathetic characters and a good story?

the six sense does not really have plot holes. it just leave a lot unanswered. An unanswered question is not a plot hole. A plot hole is a answer that make no sense, or is wrong.

Also, the dead see only what they want to see. I don't know if that's a direct quote, but it's intimated quite strongly in the picture. A deus ex machina style get out clause, but a plausible one none the less, given other ghost's appearences in the picture:

you could similarly ask "didn't the old domestically abused lady in the kitchen realise she wasn't in her husband's kitchen ?" or "didn't the boy with the headshot wound already know he'd shot himself before telling Cole he knew where his dad kept his gun ?"

The dead are in a perpetual loop. They don't even know they're dead, according to the kid. Of course they don't notice other things like that.
As for how they met- well, their first meeting was shown. The kid knew Malcom was dead the whole time, but didn't see him as a threat. Good thing since Malcom's mission was the kid.
