Help me figure out this movie!!

I saw a movie when I was very young, that I can't for the life of me figure out what it is. I only have one scene from it in my mind that I can remember. A young couple are making out on a lawn in front of an old creepy house, when the garden hose comes to life and wraps up the guy or girl and proceeds to kill one of them, or they get away, I can't remember. It was late 70's / early 80's, and I seem to remember that the house was haunted or something paranormal going on with it. Sorry the clue's are so vague, but that's all I can remember. I've wondered about this movie for several years and have no clue. Then again, I haven't seen nearly as many movies as you people. Anyone know what it is?

Odd. It doen't ring a bell, but I do remember a recurring nightmare I used to have about a evil garden hose.

was John Travolta or a travolta-esque dude in it, cause I remember seeing this too.
