The Godfather Returns

The Godfather Returns written by Mark Winegardner comes out Nov. 16th. It covers stuff that we never saw in Part 2. I thought they'd fill us in on the life of Sonny or what happened when Vincent took over the family in Part 3. Well, I'm still interested enough to check the book out.

I don't know. I'm a fan of The Godfather, but this doesn't sound so good. Did this guy make al this up, or was it based on outlines or ideas by Puzo, or even Coppola at the least? I guess it's the same as the Star Wars EU stuff, which I have never read any of, so maybe it's not a bad thing. The description at Amazon makes it sound like a The Godfather part 1.5.

Mark Winegardner brings an original voice and vision to Mario Puzo’s mythic characters while creating several equally unforgettable characters of his own. The Godfather Returns stands on its own as a triumph–in a tale about what we love, yearn for, and sometimes have reason to fear . . . family.
I don't know that I like the sound of that.

I read about this a while ago. I believe the book company (can't remember for sure who it was) put out a little call to all writers. They were looking for a writer who was in the same situation as Puzo was in when he wrote the Godfather (pretty much poor and unknown). This was about a year, year and a half ago. I wonder if he can bring the same kind of story to the table.
