But last night I noticed it was unchanged and it looked like he had a tracheotomy scar on his throat. Was he involved in an accident or illness?
I'm very late to the game here, but I just saw some of the Bravo program and I'm wondering the same thing. Clive Barker seemed to have had some very serious damage done to his vocal cords or something. He physically looked different than I remember (thought that would probably be more than 5 or 6 years ago.) I did a quick internet search but I didn't find anything about health problems or accidents.

I admit I've kind of lost track/obsession with Clive but his films and some of his movies have been really important to me, so I'm concerned. He's also always come off as a very intelligent and well-spoken man, but to hear him like on this show is kind of scary.

So, does anyone know what happened? Has anyone sent letters asking about this?

I think they should have nominated the original Japanese "The Ring" because it's more creepy and effective. But it's almost obvious retroactively that a movie that breaks the barrier between audience and film would be an affecting horror film. This is a concept that has been used before, but "Ringu" does such a great and realistic job of breaking the barrier between the audience and the victim that it makes the whole movie wonderfully affective. With the vast majority of movies you can always just say "it's just a movie" or "it's just a tv show" but in this film the film or tv show is equally dangerous as a knife wielding maniac. What's worse is that film, TV, Video, or DVD have become such a comfort to so many people, and yet in this film those sources of comfort and safety can be the very cause of death and destruction. That is truly brilliant. Meta-Horror is always going to be fascinating and entertaining to me, although the more dismissive or diffusive types like "Scream" clones will not fall into this category, smart films like "Ringu" will.

(edited to add: I think they kind of made "Audition" the stand in for all of the recent Asian horror. Although I DO agree that "Audition" is fucking intense and scary and truly brilliant.)
