Any Ace Combat fans here?

I realize that GTA:SA will overshadow and PS2 release for the next several weeks, but I, for one, am also picking up the new Ace Combat 5 game. Reviews have been very favorable, and flight sims on any console are just too few and far between to ignore this one. The TV spots look great, too. I'll be skipping the HOTAS/game combo (although FYI, the USB flightstick works on PCs too!).

So, am I alone on this one? Shall I just expect the usual chirping crickets and tumbleweeds blowing by in this thread?

Is there a Xbox version slated for this?

Not that I know of, unfortunately. PS2 exclusive, methinks.

That's too bad. They could do a lot with the Xbox....

Will have to pass on this one. Hatin' on the love the PS2 is getting right now.

I'll probably pick this up if I can find enough time between GTA, Halo and Half-Life... and then there's Metroid, oh and CS Source. Shit, I am going to go broke and malnurished.

ARGH! WHAT IS WITH THE JAPANESE?!?!?!?!?!

Why is there an ancient fucking DEMON in my modern aircraft flight sim?

I think I might write an article to submit to Blofeld about all the things that are SO FUCKING IRRITATING in Japanese games. That oughta get me a bunch of lovely email...

Do it. Do it.

I finally saw a commercial for this. It looks pretty good for a PS2 game. But since I don't own a PS2, I won't be playing it.

It's actually a great action game, aside from the Japanese silliness. Beautiful graphics, lotsa voice chatter during the missions, challenging, etc..

Looks like I may have jumped the gun on the demon thing. Though there are multiple references to a "dark demon" rising, who is actually named and has some sort of history, it may just be a metaphor for the war situation in general.

Whew.

Actually, you have to battle a giant Lava Monster, like in those commercials for the Marines.

The graphics look pretty sweet in this, but what's the gameplay like? Fly from Point A to Point B...lock on to dark demon...fire missile?

Certainly doesn't mean you can't go ahead with a scathing article about the Japanese. Game looks great but I just can't get into (meaning I suck at and refuse to play) realistic games of any sort. Sports, cars, planes, strategy games, I just don't like them.

Fast aerial action, very arcade-ish. Lots of radio chatter, missile smoke trails, tracer rounds, you can issue simple orders to your wingmen, you carry a crazy amount of missiles, lots of dogfights with multiple air and ground targets, some science fiction-y weapons and plot points, all on a fictional globe with fictional countries with names like Yuktobania (Yukes, for short). You unlock and upgrade planes as you go, and there are a ton of (very well made) cutscenes. Voice acting is not horrible, but certainly not great either.

The filmed replays are awesome, very cinematic and realistic-looking, even though the game is FAR from realistic. It's a blast to play so far, though.

I may just do this. I'll need to collect my thoughts first, so I can rant properly.

Huh, sounds better than I assumed, I'd give it a rent but Baulder's Gate owns me until Ratchet & Clank 3, then Halo, then Metroid etc...etc...

I have the fist game and it's awesome.

I'll be getting this, and no it's not a realistic flight sim with a million controlls, it's an action game with extremly excellent graphics bordering on photorealism.
