Various and sundry Blu-ray/DVD bargains thread

Thread Starter

A few people have said they want a sticky thread devoted to any and all DVD bargains and coupons, and I have to agree with them. Instead of having a bunch of different threads all devoted to one deal each, we could now post them all here. So, if the mods decide that they like our idea, they can make this a sticky.

Chewers! Go forth! Conquer, burn, and pillage! Bring us back the best DVD deals on the planet!

I like the idea, and I don't have a mod bone in my body. My only suggestion would be to keep Columbia House DVD codes in the thread that was started for that a while back. I'll try to find it...

Edit: I guess that thread is no longer available. Oh well.

Well, I suppose as long as we keep this updated and try to keep it at or near the top of the forum it will work without it being a sticky. I just think it's a good idea because it makes it easier for us to keep track of all the deals and stuff.
Please Nick, make this thread sticky. Our DVD savings thank you.
Consider the sticky request seconded, or thirded...or fiftieded...or whatever...I want it too! I can't tell you how many times I've heard about some discount dvd site here in a random thread; but when I try to find said threads...I always come up empty. Stickifiying this one would be stupendous.

Wooo Hoooo! It worked! Thanks, Nick. (I guess you're the one who did it...) So, now all we have to do is post all the deals in here.

So, I'll start...

Best Buy is having a 3/$20 sale this week, in addition to having the usual sale on the new releases.

Here's the list

There's not a whole lot there, but it's the best I got for right now.

Saw a 4-pack at Best Buy of:

Trick Or Treat
The Wraith
The Gate
Another 80s horror flick that I can't remember

for $16.99

I just picked up Curb Your Enthusiasm: Season 2 for $19.99.

Just picked up Jurassic Park/The Lost World at Best Buy for $15 bucks.

While I don't much like The Lost World, I couldn't complain for $7.50.
Best Buy has a ton of titles for $9.99. "Jackie Brown", "The Usual Suspects", and "Gladiator" to name a few. The website has a list of the others.

Best Buy has some good deals this week, including 50% off some select 1st season TV box sets. There's some other good stuff there too, but that's the one that stuck out to me.

Garden State is on sale at Circuit City for $17.99, as opposed to 20-22 dollars everywhere else.
I think I saw somone post on another board that you can get Garden State and the sound track for 20 bucks over on MTV.com. That seems to be the best deal out there if you don't already have the soundtrack or don't mind regifting.
Just picked up The-X-Files complete first season on Amazon.com for 34.99. I have a couple seasons but am waiting for more price drops like these to complete my collection.
Do Wal-Mart bargain bin titles count? Because last time I looked, I picked up Hard Times (Walter Hill/Bronson/Coburn) for $5.88 (and a little bit of my humanity). I also saw Crossfire Trail, which is supposed to be a not-too-bad Selleck/L'Amour western. It's been a while, but apparently The Manchurian Candidate also did the rounds in the bin.

Starting February 1, 2005, Future Shop in Canada will have some interesting 2-pack DVD sets going for $22.99 Canadian:

Dawn of the Dead (Director's Cut)/Shaun of the Dead
The Chronicles of Riddick (Director's Cut)/The Chronicles of Riddick: Pitch Black
The Terminal/Catch Me If You Can
Two Brothers/Thunderbirds
Van Helsing/The Mummy [but who really wants this one?]

I saw this tonight actually. Is it the "fixed" version of the DVDs? I don't remember exactly what was wrong with the first release, something to do with the framing of the flim, but I don't want to buy the screwed up one.

FAQ about the BTTF framing fuck-up

Quote:
Yes, your copy must be affected. The same visual master source was used everywhere. Every single copy of the DVD from every batch in all regions (R1/R2/R3/R4, and maybe R5, PAL/NTSC/SECAM) are affected. The misprint was not corrected until the end of May 2003, even though it was noticed and reported back in September 2002.
So it says all of the copies were fixed about a year and a half ago, so it'd be safe to assume that all copies floating around there now are corrected.

Yeah, that's the only one that's tempting me right now.

Also, has anyone seen a new deal/code at DeepDiscountDVD.com? Their website is in that state of extreme slowness that usually comes with a new 20% off discount code. Anyone?
They're usually spaced out 6 months apart at Deep Discount.

Wait until May or June.

I picked up a two-pack of Shaun of the Dead and the Dawn of the Dead remake(unrated) from best buy on Friday(2/18), for $17.99! I did a double take when I spotted that one. Usually I have one of the movies in those two packs so I don't pay them much mind, but I'd been holding on buying Shaun and Dawn. Not sure if all the stores have them or not, but when I went back two days later they were all gone(and they had a lot of them on Friday).

On the rental side, if you're Blockbuster.com curious, sign up and use "friends" as the promo code to get a free month of rentals.

I'm using it vs. Netflix right now. Some things annoy me about it (no Orgazmo and the queue selection is a bit weird concerning how it picks your next DVD is the #1 if not available), but it's $3 cheaper than Netflix for 3 DVDs out, and you get 2 coupons per month for a free rental (movie or game) in the store (which I primarily use on games).

Clue
What's Eating Gilbert Grape- both for $4.88 a piece.
Dracula (1979) 9.99

The Man With Two Brains
Mystery Men- both for $5.50 at the evil Wally World.

LA Story is in the 5.50 bin now, too.

Also, keep an eye out for the 14.44 rack of Season 1 Fox TV DVDs.

Herr Grayness,

Arrested Development's not in that rack by any chance?
Nope. No Simpsons, Family Guy, Arrested Development.

Season 6 of the Simpsons, $16-$18 after rebate (depending on if you get charged tax) from coconuts.com. Use code JUNE20FS2005, and there's a $10 rebate attached. Also, change your shipping to "Budget" and it will be free.

The code above also applies at FYE.com, or anything else, really. The rebate is just attached to the Simpsons Season 6, though.

Also, there's a $15 rebate on the Seinfeld Season 3 set, which makes the price about $15 after using the discount code and the rebate.

I'm not quite sure if this is a various and/or sundry bargain but Hollywood Video is buying used DVDs and VHS now. In store credit, all that jazz. The thing is, apparently 12th-15th they're giving 5 bucks for every dvd. I know I've got some to get rid of and that's not a bad deal. Yes, you can, maybe, get better on ebay, but this is instant gratification. Anyway, I'm stopping by after work to see how the action is.
