Deathwatch or the Bunker?

I'll be going to the vid store in a bit to rent a few flicks for my friend and I to watch tonight. If I choose to rent either of these there's-something-in-the-trenches-with-us 'horror' films, which one should I go for? A brief scan of IMDB reviews suggests Deathwatch is the better offering (though both films only received overall scores of about 5.5), but I'd rather get the opinions of my CC homies. Whaddaya recommend, folks?

Also, any new(ish) releases I should check out? Horror and atmosphere is more important than sheer gore, but we're pretty flexible. I'll be leaving in about an hour (6:30 EST). Thanks.

Happy Halloween, folks!

I haven't seen THE BUNKER, I'd appreciate some opinions on it.

DEATHWATCH is pretty good. Good performances, some decent scares. Kinda forgettable, and shows the seams of it's budget, but worth seeing.

Although why these two? Desperte for horror in the trenches?

Skip The Bunker it's just bad. Deathwatch has some interesting characters and good atmosphere go with it. If you haven't seen Ginger Snaps II check that one out as well or III for that matter.

Seen (and adored) GS & GS2, best werewolf films in a looong time (Dog Soldiers was really cool too).

Why horror-in-the-trenches? It sounds like a cool setting for a horror film, assuming it's handled properly. I had mentioned them to my friend and he sounded interested, so I thought I'd select one or the other for this evening's viewing entertainment.

Again, if anyone has any other good suggestions, I'd appreciate them. Bear in mind, though, that I'm limited to Blockbuster and my local (although pretty good) video store.

I totally enjoyed Deathwatch. It was very gritty and raw with some good performances.

I was worried about Ginger Snaps 3 cause of some of the reviews but dude it rocked. EXCELLENT

Also two flicks I've seen recently that rocked my world were "The Eye" and "My little Eye"

I disagree. It feels like war in the trenches was already horrible enough not to have to add supernatural elements to it. Soldiers who spent days and night in the dark of the trenches with explosions above their heads and friends dying next to them already had enough to worry about, they wouldn't have cared much about ghosts or werewolves or whatever. I guess that explains the fact that in both The bunker and Deathwatch, supernatural elements are almost nonexistent.

I didn´t like The Bunker, it´s got a good story but unfortunately it gets really boring, really fast. The german soldiers are played by english actors with brittish accents LOL.I actually rented Deathwatch, but i didn´t watch the whole film though, can someone spoil the ending for me, please?

If you like slow plodding movies with things that go bump in the night but aren't ever seen then go for "The Bunker".

I haven't seen Deathwatch yet but if it is more of the same then I'll pass.

Both are eminently missable movies. Well intentioned, but not worth going out of your way for. I found Deathwatch especially clumsy, which is a shame as the concept and cast are superb.

Thanks for the info. The film reminded me off those old horror comix that EC used to publish back in the fifties, like Tales from the Crypt.
