I think we should vote to see if Nick can marry Halo 2, or if they should just have a civil union.

It does look freakishly good. I may have to take the plunge into Xbox Live for this one.

Doubting Thomas.

Hurry up already so I can cuss at a foreigner.

Sigh...friggin download limitations. I can't download more than 2 movies at atime.

Also, Nick seeing that you are a family man and a big time webmaster I am curious about how much/when you will be able to play this game. I am a night owl when it comes to LIVE, I assume you will be similar. Just curious though. I have plenty of friends who have to choose between gaming and obligations...the real world sucks.

OMG. I just saw the midship video...I WANT THIS NOW...THe sword!!!! Whoever was playing was using it so well, and it doesnt lock an as quick as i thought. My god the carbine...my god the plasma grenades seemed to stick easier and their explosions were lovely...GOD I WANT THIS.

Watching videos now.

Soiling pants now.

Wow...the game just looks RIGHT. I don't know how else to put it. Water works looks like a huge stage good for 16 person CTF, but the rest of them look very balanced. I love the see sawing middle platform in midship.

I really like the weapon balance too. In the Zanzibar demo days, the SMG seemed to have little recoil and rip through everything...now it is much more wily if you keep on firing, at least form what i saw.

The plasma rifle doesn't seem to freeze ppl as much as it did in halo 1...that was my fave weapon...shoot shoot shoot, SLAP.

And the brute shot is interesting. This is the first time i saw it in action, its like a mini grenade launcher with very little splash damage. I am drooling.

Thanks for posting these nick, you loveable bastard.

Thank you Nick. I got nothing done at work yesterday afternoon while watching these videos (of course maybe I got nothing done cause I was finished about noon anyway).

Now I just need a couple of big checks so I can get my x-box and join in the fun.
without a doubt I can easily see my ass being owned by anyone else on these boards. I look forward to some ass rapings....those videos make me drool.

Nick, I'm sorry but that first video was like watching spaz boy wonder. It was fucking funny. Are all of the vidoes of some tard bouncing around shooting and thrusting at random shit?

Nick, I question your sanity on Halo 2.

He was demonstrating weapons and features. The Banshee roll, how far you can fall without taking damage, what the death animation looks like, how each weapon fires, how much damage your shield can take, range and timing on the grenades, vehicle damage. That's the kind of stuff I hoped to see.

And, uh, you can just check out the other videos yourself.

I don't get the JOY from Multi-Player...I Really don't...

You grab a new map...and play, and play and play, until every ambush point and weapon-spawn point is second nature...now you wait for the n00bies;, ha-ha, here they come...you've TOTALLY p0wned these pussies You kick ass for an hour...and then you get bored....so you load a NEW map...rinse and repeat

Please, convince me I'm wrong in my assumption!

Interesting take graham...while I am not going to speak for everyone who plays multiplayer games, but as for myself, I have been playing online FPS's on the CPU for 5-6 years now. Knowing the maps and the spawn points and the weapon caches and sniper points and etc is only something that helps me enjoy the game more.

Knowing all that information isn't going to make every game the same. A well made map in any FPS will have multiple routes of attack or defense depending on what kind of game you are playing. And even after you have masterd the map, what you know or what you THINK you know will always be changed when you play against real life people.

I think thats why I played CS for almost 3-4 years (the longest I can ever remember playing just one game consistently. The multitude of players (yes there were a lot of assholes, but there were a lot of good guys too) and different play styles brings something brand new to the table.

Halo specifically had really well done maps and save for the power of the pistol which I fucking hated the game had a lot of balance to it. Bringing this whole thing online is something very exciting not just for halo fans but for fans of the genre in general.

2nd Level Opening Cinematic

Anybody who doesn't want any of the in-game cinematics ruined, avoid this at all costs.

SPOILERS:

The convoy of Warthogs look BADASS! I think the Bungie team really strived to have a Black Hawk Down feel to this level (with the Pelicans being the Blackhawks and the Warthogs being the ground assault team).

Nick, I know you were fucked over by Microsoft and havent got an early copy of Halo for reviewing (Or have you? Did the competition yeild results?) But anyway, are you still Halo'ing up the site come release day?

That was gorgeous. I noticed a lot of that was from the Halo 2 trailer released a while ago, but cleaned up and added to considerably. This is going to own all.

You're wrong. If LIVE is the only way you play, I agree. I'd get bored in a flash too. The value of this is that we play in person all the time and you develop different skills and the other guys learn their way and it creates a dynamic that's like when the Lakers and Celtics used to meet, or Yankees/Red Sox, or whatever your choice rivalry is. It's bigger than the game and it becomes a matter of little things and how you pair the players up. On the new LIVE you can apparently recreate the living room experience of a LAN party and that's where the magic of this game will be made.

No, in fact... I'll be doing very little work on the site after tonight because I have Sofia and a million chores to get done before Monday at Midnight.

All the website reviews go live in an hour.
Aren't most of those reviews up at Noon PST? Which would be 3:00 P.M. for me and (I think) 2:00 P.M. for you, Slater?

Well, I only watched the first one and to me it was some guy spazzing about shooting at the floor and the air and shit. No thanks, I think I will pass on the rest and learn this game on the fly.

Since I don't know where else to put this (since there's no spoilers)....

Through a series of events or circumstances that I don't wish to go into -- let's just leave it at the fact that I've been working in the videogame industry for several years -- I managed to sit down and spend a good hour or so playing Halo 2 last night. Playing coop with a buddy, we managed to make it through the first two levels of the game (starting aboard an UNSC starship and ending on Earth).

First impressions?

The game starts off more or less exactly as the first one did (for the entirety of the first level), and immediate reactions to the game correspond to those of the previous game, as well. The graphics are, holistically speaking, slightly better, the weapons handle differently (especially with the duel-wielding ability), and the overall presentation is not that different at all. The game's new strengths or subtleties don't really present themselves until the second level, when massive environments, lots of vehicles, and all-around total carnage are the rule of the day.

In other words, the game starts off good and quickly becomes excellent (especially during the last chapter of the second level).

I'm hoping to have some more hands-on time with the title Monday night, building all the way up 'til its release at midnight.

(Oh -- one more thing. Thanks to one particular line of dialogue Cortana delivers towards the end of level two -- and thanks to the insights into story structure being a writer brings -- I've managed to figure out the game's main throughline, including some of its twists and turns. I'm looking forward to seeing how much I *haven't* figured out...)
