Killzone

Sucks. Rented it out of curiosity on Friday, potentially good game that's just not fun to play. I very rarely notice or care much about frame rate but Killzone jumps around so much it started giving me a headache. Your guy turns in these jerky start and stop movements while things flicker in and out of the background/foreground. Aiming also gets to be a bitch with all the slowdown, you kind of just point in the general direction and hope for the best.

One plus, the weapons sound really good.

So, this was supposed to be Sony's triumphant HALO KILLAH!1!1! What happened? Rushed through production to beat HALO 2 in the release date race?

That's what I think. This would have probably been a great game had they held off, fixed some problems (although the problems it has are big ones), and been released in the post holiday slow gaming months. Releasing alongside a huge list of AAA games was just a bad idea.

That honor belongs to Ratchet & Clank 3.

Just wanted to remind everyone that this game sucks. Carry on.

Most reviews were okay. One I saw said it would have been a great game on other hardware. Great art direction, but stutters in motion. That's a slap to PS2s face. As cool as PS2 is and however amazing some of its games are, technically it just can't hold up in the long run. But in the right hands magic can happen. I'm not even knocking the system, so don't take it that way.

As I was saying, the reviews I've seen for this were overall just slightly better than those for the new Goldeneye game... BUT...

PSM gave it a 9.5.

I think that review stands out like a sore thumb and smells just a bit fishy, sort of like rotten fluke actually.

Why does it seem like only Insomnaic and Naughty Dog are the only first-party developers that can glean magic from the PS2's hardware?

Also, I have no idea where Kojima finds these magical chips on the PS2 that no other third-party can seem to find, but his games rival anything on any hardware ever for sheer beauty.

I thought it was doomed from the start. I heard it was from the same people that made Shell Shock Nam 67, and that game sucked.

I beta tested the online portion of this game, and it didn't really have anything that new.

Framerate was ok for the most part I thought, maybe it got worst? What was really bad was the reload animations, they were just too slow.

The art direction is great, love the Hellzhast (sp?) design, but aside from that, the online game didn't really bring anything new to the table.

It's a shame, maybe they'll get it better on the PS3 ...

Indeed.

Boring, nothing to see here.

The screen shots I have seen were a bit misleading... This game is not all that pretty. It doesn't help that its choppy as hell aswell... The worst offense thus far, however, is the sound and enemies. The enemies dont change. Ever. They get some new guns, but thats it. Not even there voice commands change. Its the same Helghast commander saying the same things over and over and over. That doesn't help, with some of Killzone sounding like a gameboy game...

Wasn't that bad, but when you're opening cinematic blows everything else in the game away...you've got a problem.

The game is just...there.

Oh hell ya, I loved that opening video. It actually got me excited, you know, before the crap.

Is this the same Killzone on PS2? I just rented it and I think it's cool as all hell so far.

There is only one Killzone, and it is on PS2, and you must be masochist or something. I played the demo expecting garbage and got worse. Is the full game different? I hated how the guy's head moved while he was getting out a weapon or reloading or something.

I didn't mind the motion at all. Some day I hope a fps adopts that style from all aspects. If you run the camera sways from side to side etc. It would add alot of stradegy and reward skill. Killzone just gets annoying, and fast. There is only one kind of enemy, and vehicles are so rare that they can't be counted. Besides, you can't pilot them... Its simply far to one dimensional. Oh, and whats with the water coolers on the second level?
