What is everyone's opinion the following films:

- The soon to be released remake of Assault on Precinct 13

- The Carpenter-produced remake of The Fog

- The Frank Darabont-produced miniseries sequel to The Thing

looking forward to AOP13 remake and Darabont's Thing (if true)

a Fog remake might be nice as long as they get some atmospheric Cali coastal locations.

The remakes are pointless. No one will ever get close to the original FOG, JC producing or no.

The Thing sequel... I'm not interested. The ending is one of the infinitely great things about the original.

Carpenter involved or not, I am INTERESTED in these films, although like Charles B., I know they won't come close to touching the originals. Since there has never been a remake of a Carpenter film before now, I am interested to see someone's new take on or interpretation of his works. Hopefully they won't turn out to be useless wastes of film.

The only one that really interests me is Assault on Precint 13 because I have never actually seen the original(in fact other than Body Bags and Prince of Darkness it is the only Carpenter I have not seen) so I will have no baggage brought to the remake.

I'm looking forward to the "Assault..." remake. I saw the original recently and while it was good--the ice cream scene was a shocker--the film also felt awkward and very dated. This is actually the second time the director has remade the film (the first was the solid French action flick "The Nest"), so I hope this means he'll be able to deliver a very polished and effective film.

I love Assault. It's right up there with his best work.

The one they SHOULD remake is THEY LIVE.

Why? That movie is pure Carpenter.

None of them would come close to the originals including AOP13 but I would be interested in seeing them because I'm getting desperate for some decent horror.

STOP the goddamn remakes!

The Thing for sci-fi is NOT a remake, but a sequel, so I'm curious to see what Darabont will do.

As for The Fog remake, fuck it. That cast is one of Carpenters best. I hope they at least cast Jamie Lee Curtis. Even with my babie's mamma present, it will most likely be edited like a music video, have a gaggle of pretty WB castoffs and zero fucking atmosphere. It will suck worse than the Chainsaw remake, if possible.

Assault remake could be interesting, but they should at least change the title so the comparisons won't be so fucking obvious.

Although remakes make me sick for the most part, Dawn of the Dead was glorious so I should shut my gob until the movies come out.

first of all, I love the original. It's a lot of fun, very funny, and clever.

That being said, are there not a million different directions you can go with the story? Is Roddy Piper's viewpoint of the alien invasion the definitive one? I think in particular the Reaganomics can be translated to today's FCC-monitored Bible-Belt politics as far as thematic significance.

I'm all for it.
