Prala Own World Now: Strategy Games

Its a little known (har har) fact that I'm a Civ junkie - as is Jason, who turned into one of those people who never slept at all when I introduced him to it. However, after a solid year of playing Civ 3 & the two expansions, I'm looking for something new, and I wanted your lovely recommendations on which to get:

Evil Genius: Seems like a no-brainer. Different than the other ones I'm looking at, but still, looks really intersting.

Kohan II: Kings of War: Looks intersting, and someone recommended, but I wasn't too insprired when I read it.

LOTR: Battle for Mid-Earth

Rise of Nations
Age of Empires
The two above are where it gets tricky - they seem most like Civ, so I'm sure I'll enjoy either, but I can't really make either stand out in my brain.

Eh, first of all, think its just a remake of the old pirates. Second, I'm more looking for the "take over the world military/sim type strategy." And, thirdly, I believe I gave you a list of games I wanted opinions on.

Okay, 1) you say that as if it's a bad thing. 2) you had evil genius as a different type of game so I thought a game by the same maker as Civ would be relevant and 3) i haven't played any of those on your list except the demo of Evil Genius, which was funny but since the real game won't play on my computer, I haven't bought it yet. But then again, I'm still playing Civ III...

Have you played Civ? How is it different? More emphasis on (I take it) War? What do I need to know?

lots more emphasis on military and tactics, which might not be your thing. The sight of thousands of Romans and Carthaginians going at it with elephants in glorious 3D totally makes up for it, though.

If you don't mind SciFi, try Galactic Civilizations. It's a very good game, has a demo online I think, has an expansion for more stuff, and the team that makes it is pioneering electronic distribution. www.galciv.com

This company is working on the sequel to Master of Magic, if you played that. Which is the peak of awesomeness.

If you are not scared to go REALLY indepth in the political etc side of strategy, you could try Europa Universalis 2.
