I broke down and bought the XBox. Tell me what's good.

Never much interested in this system. Seemed clunky, awkward, and dull. But hey - it was $13.00. Worse comes to worse, I'll sell it on the Bay for $25.00.

But for now, I'd like to give it a chance - and that's where you come in. Take a couple of seconds to mention a worthwhile game here.

HALO doesn't count. Nor does its sequel. I hate bees.

I'm looking for titles that bear the "Only For XBox" tag.

I don't like sports games - I prefer the real thing. Wrestling would be the exception.

Not a fan o' the Tom Clancy kinda' deal. No whimsy. Don't tell me I'm a Jarhead who tested well. Add psychics and monsters and give me something like Metal Gear or Psi-Ops.

I am a fan of RPG and turn-based storybook stuff like Final Fantasy.

I dig space shooter shite like Ikaruga and such.

Shenmue is good.

What do I need to rush out and get?

Fable and crimson skies seems to match your criteria for what you like.try those..
Ninja Gaiden will make a man out of you.
Ninja Gaiden is fucking awesome get it now.
Knights of the Old Republic is damn good RPGing.

Fable can be a lot of fun, as long as you don't expect it to be the Best Game Ever. You can kick the shit out of chickens, which is always a bonus.

If you liked Sky Captain then, yeah, Crimson Skies is essential as well.

I really enjoyed Deus Ex: Invisible War, though I believe PC purists think its watered-down console shite.

I echo the love for this.

While it's not an XBox exclusive, I think you'd really like Everything or Nothing, Jason. It's the best 007 in years, and stars Willem Dafoe!
Well, obvious one....Shenmue II.

Panzer Dragoon Orta will satisfy the shooter fix.

Also echoing the "Ninja-Gaiden-will-put-hair-on-your-ass" sentiment.

MORROWIND is the RPG that separates the men from the boys.

Completely forgot about Crimson Skies and Ninja Gaiden. And Shenmue II. And I had no idea Knights of the Old Republic was an RPG.

I'll check out Fable. And Panzer Dragoon - I remember liking the Saturn version a lot.

Dan, I loved Sky Captain with all of my heart. Isn't Crimson Skies that thing that looks like that Garbage video? I always thought that looked neat.

Charles - I LOVE Everything or Nothing. So good that they made Dafoe a protege of Walken. Smart writing. It IS the best Bond in years - and I don't mean "Bond game" - I mean Bond PERIOD.

Morrowind...hmm. Hadn't thought of that.

What I'm saying is THANKS for the tips - I wouldn't have remembered/thought of any of these without you. Keep it up. I can acquire everything here dirt cheap (sometimes it PAYS to be a retail loser), so I'm after whatever you guys mention.

Crimson Skies basically is Sky Captain: The Video Game. Very slick aerial combat game set in a retro-futuristic world of propellor planes, zeppelins, mad scientists and enormous mechanical death machines.

The story is even suspiciously close to Sky Captain, with a rugged pilot chasing a madman whose stealing technology from scientists.

Fun script, fantastic flight controls and just great environments to zoom around in - from deserts to cities (the art-deco Chicago with an airborne mafia is especially cool).

You can also play it online, should you go that far.

HAM, if you have a ShopKo near you, you can get Shenmue II for $15 brand new until Nov. 20.

The love for Crimson Skies should be reinforced. Such a fantastic game.

"Chronicles Of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay" is simply bad ass.
When I eventually get mine, I'll pick up JET SET RADIO FUTURE, Panzer Dragoon, Halo 2 and Ninja Gaiden.

If it's on PC though, I'm getting the PC version (Riddick in December).
I bought the Xbox for Buffy (the first game).....and yes, I am confortable admiting that in public.
Jet Set Radio Future is a fun ride. A long one, but fun nonetheless.

Not sure how you feel about the film iterations, HAM, but this game is virtually a must-have for anyone who likes a brawling, atmospheric sci-fi shooter.
Firstly, Crimson Skies and KOTOR.

The first Buffy game is fun, as is Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb , but don't spend more than $15-$20 on them. Fusion Frenzy's good for a crowd o' folks. The two RAW games have been a bust for me, as have the first two Legends of Wrestling. Then again, I'm a wrestling game elitist. Which is sort of like a compassionate conservative.

You might want to rent Def Jam: Fight for NY for shits and giggles.

Okay - Crimson Skies is a definite. And yeah, Butcher Bay seemed exceedingly detailed.

I'll probably pick up Buffy because it's Buffy. Movie tie-ins warm my heart - especially when EA handles them. I'm running through Helm's Deep in The Third Age right now. Laws yes.

I have Jet Grind Radio for the Dreamcast and dig it much. Future's on the agenda.

Leggy - I played through and beat Def Jam. Got every trophy but two. I made a guy who actually looks a bit like me. Dresses like me too - kung fu shirt, camo pants, John Cena's WWE lock (I needed bling - and I do own the lock in real - read 'word' - life).

And I'll give you a shiny nickel if you can guess what my character's ONLY finisher is...

Happy Birthday, Mr. Garfield.

Fuck - you guys have given me so much to think about. Might be more quality stuff than I'd considered. Thanks so very much.

The Buffy games are pretty damn bad, HAM. I love the show and couldn't play more than a few levels of that shit. And Butcher Bay is great, but it's only about 5-6 hours long, so it makes a better rental than purchase.

Crimson Skies is great. Ninja Gaiden is probably the best pure action game ever made, even though the difficulty will kick your ass over and over again. If you're holding on to even a shred of fondness for the original trilogy, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is a brilliant RPG.

Teams of psychologists follow poor NINJA GAIDEN players around, looking for the screams and the delusional terrors that the game induces.

I'm going to go with a sleeper hold, however, I'm going to add that while your character was applying it, you got all wild eyed and maniacal looking. That or you just bashed people over the head with a cocoanut.

Buffy is an inelegant piece of gaming, but fun nonetheless for me. I haven't played the second one, but I understand Sid the Dummy is a playable character in it.

Similarly, I'd throw Evil Dead: Fistfull of Boomstick in lot 'kinda crappy, but fun'. It plays like the dropped-on-it's-head-at-birth, inbred cousin of Ninja Gaiden, but with zombies, and the Chin cracking wise.

Prince of Persia, my man. I just bought it two weeks ago with store credit at Game Crazy and it's a blast. Plus if you beat the game you get to play the original POP games.
If you want a futuristic racer Quantum Redshift is a MUST have XBox only title. Project Gotham Racing 2 is phenominal.

HAM's looking for XBOx exclusives, but second the Prince of Persia love.

And lest we forget, the sequel hits next week. And the sequel looks to own us all.

Hoping Slater would chime in, as he - no offense to any of our other Box Fiends here - seems to be infinitely knowledgeable in regards to this system.

The results thus far:

Ninja Gaiden rules with a Z.

An Emilie Dequenne doppleganger working the counter at EB talked my ear off about Morrowind, and so I bought it for five bucks used.

Just rented Crimson Skies and really want to sit down to it.

Thanks to everyone for the continued advice. I just bought a new controller for the system - I think I'll keep it. Best $13.00 I've ever spent.

The GameCube would be the best $11.00 I've ever spent. Time to start a new thread...

I bought my Xbox recently solely because the PC version of KOTOR kept crashing on my computer. Definitely do KOTOR, and I'm enjoying Battlefront too, even though it's a straight Battlefield 1942 clone with stormtrooper helmets. Does anybody know anything about the new LOTR game that came out, the third age? Looks kind of cool but I'm nervous.

Third Age is basically Weta Workshop Presents J.R.R. Tolkien's Final Fantasy X.

Lotta' RPG kids hate Final Fantasy because it's too lock-step. No free will - it's not really an RPG (which is why I referred to it as a "turn-based storybook" above). But Final Fantasy has never been about stats for me. It's about an odd story in an amazing environment, with cool characters.

Third Age is that. All of the Weta Rings environs, arms, and armor faithfully recreated, and a story that follows the fellowship in a witty - though slightly incongruous - way.

But back to the XBox.

...

...

NINJA GAIDEN!!!!!!!!

Then you bought the wrong system. PS2 is the ONLY console for those. XBox is good for action games and racing games, but is shite for RPGs. If you want Morrowind, get it for PC so you can get the mods that make the graphics bearable.

But yeah, KOTOR all the way.

I already have a PS2.

And my PC is for productivity. Not a single game on the hard drive.

Ancient Chinese Secret, mom.

Someday I'll be able to explain how without losing my job. But that someday is not right now.

I've followed a lot of the advice in this thread. Rented Ninja Gaiden and was working on that until SNAKE EATER came out.

Rented Knights of the Old Republic, and...maybe I need to give it another try. Later.

Morrowind was started and abandoned in favor of the joy that IS Crimson Skies. I played this as a rental for about twenty minutes before going out and buying it. I'll get back to Morrowind, as it seemed interesting and intricate.

Picked up Riddick used for $7.00 on sale at EB. Great looking game.

Please keep the ideas coming - they're appreciated.
