CHUD's HALO Clan

Thread Starter
I've started setting it up, am trying to figure it out. Slater and Granzin were both raised to a status where they could do admin stuff too. I think a couple of others too. I need to figure out a few things with your help:

1. How do we best do this thing?

2. What's the ebst way to ensure we can play together (I had some really bad experiences playing with "regular" people on Live)?

3. When can we start?

If you want to join, send a request to gamertag: CHUDcom
post #2 of 155
Yeah, I sent clan invites to a bunch of people in that other Clan thread yesterday. Happy to add anybody else if Nick's busy. Just let me know.

But I have no idea how we set up official clan matches or anything. I'm guessing it has to be done during Matchmaking games rather than arranged games, right? I'm still really fuzzy on how the whole party aspect works during Matchmaking games. Do you join an existing game and then send out party invites, or are you supposed to form your party before joining a game?
This may have been linked already, but there's a lot of info here.

Today's Penny Arcade also seems to address the "party" portion of matchmaking.
Well, I already know of another Clan that we could battle.
Well, considering the clan itself can have 100 members with each game only allowing as many as 16, it's highly unlikely each person will be able to play with everyone else all the time. Plus if you want to get into the competitive scene, just playing amongest yourself (I don't own an X-Box, even though this is tempting for me to go out and buy one, so I'm just speaking from experience with PC FPS) is probably not the best way to prepare yourself for matches. So I guess it all depends on the attitude as to what the clan is all about. Are you just casual players having fun or do you actually want to make yourselves known out there in the Halo community?

I'd suggest to first poll the interests of the members and then separate them into those playing casually vs those that want to compete, and within that you can organize squadrons of maybe 10 people each with a leader assigned (that way they can play and familiarize themselves with each other, as well as avoid having to play with people that you may have problems with). This way, you can let the hardcore ones take the time to handle setting up practices, matches and what not, and those that don't care for that can just play the game however they want. There are other ways to go about it, but the bottomline depends on what you want this clan to be and what you want out of it.

Start an "invitation only" party, then a "party only" game, then send out invites. As long as two or more people are in the party (and you're playing something like Slayer), the people already in the party can go ahead and start up a match. Other people can then join the game in progress as they receive the invitations. Eventually you'll have a game filled with only people you've invited... without having to sit around waiting for people to get organized, get online, whatever.

And whenever the party leader decides to join another game, he can pull the entire party with him (assuming there's enough available slots). I know there's more to it I haven't read about yet.
Request sent. Gamertag: DigestedPaco
Jay and I are flexible...we can play seriously or play for fun. Hopefully, we will get a chance to do a bit of both.
When someone forms a party and others accept to join they will stay with those players as long they are in the party. Even if you are playing in an "optimatch" game you can carry your whole party with you into those games. Thus allowing you to continue to play together.

Under the "optimatch" settings is two options for clan battles. There is a small battle (less then 8 players) and a large battle (up to 16) - as far as I can tell. From what I understand you would form a game, invite the players you want to be in the party. They would then follow you wherever you go. I suppose you would then invite the other clan but I am not sure how that part works.
Someone said earlier that with 100 members you can't all battle at the same time but you sort of can. You separate your clan into different teams. You can make an A team, B team etc or Slayer teams, CTF teams, etc... That way when someone challenges you determine how hard you want to go at them. Now obviously not everyone can meet at 8:00pm on Saturday nights (for example) so at that time you just figure out who is there and invite. If you both clans have over eight players who battle then you have several games. Just assign who you want to battle who. In theory all 100 of your team could battle all 100 of theirs at the same time, just not in the same game... (I hope this make sense)

This is what I can tell from reading bungie.net and playing around last night. I hope it is right. There have only been a few clan matches (according to the stats) so far.

And while I may not know everyone from CHUD it was a lot easier knowing that most people would be fairly civil. I had some kid running around screaming "take that motherfucker" everytime he killed someone in a random game last night. I had to shut him off he was so annoying. Now I had some good CTF matches and such, but it seemed to more friendly playing in CHUD games...

Somehow I missed this post, which says pretty much what I just said.. my bad... Although the line about making yourselves known in the Halo community makes me laugh.. not sure why, just seems funny

You allready accepted my friend request plus my brothers friend request. We really want to be in this clan because I think this clan would be more about play than regulating games like the clans on Wolfenstein did. My brother and I are pretty serious about it, if you forget our gamertags are Loapan and PorkChopXpress. See you in the near future if not tonight.

Looks like I'm not going to be able to do 'live' until this Saturday. I hope the Clan doesn't fill-up by then.

If it's self-explanatory, I plan on sending a message to gamertag "Chudcom" somehow (if not, I'll come back to the more technical posts in this thread). Otherwise, is there anything else I need to do?

BTW: my gamer tag is Ockhamm (the extra "m" is because some rad bastard already took the real name).

Really simple. You get an invite, you join the clan.

There's only about 25 people in it right now, I think. Unless I was just looking at my friends list and not the clan list. I'll be playing around with it more this evening.
Nick, have you done this yet? I did a "group" search with a few permutations of chud and came up empty.

Once you have a Clan in Halo 2 on Live, come to Bungie.net to create a home. Visit the Community section and create a group. We use the term group to refer to the various fansites that exist within Bungie.net - whether they are Halo 2 Clans or 7th Column Chapters. Create one and you and your friends will have a little place to call home complete with your own forums, news, databases and more. You can then link your newly created group page to your Clan for easy access to your clan stats.
Also, here's our clan info on bungie: http://www.bungie.net/Stats/ClanStat...lan=chuddotcom

I have to say, the Bungie site is a a little busy and tricky to navigate at times. It needs work. Organizing clan activities here instead of there will probably be a lot easier.
Thanks for that. Maybe I can swing getting it going earlier (though tonight won't be until very late). I really hate dealing with unknowns on 'live'. Such a grab bag of participants and normally I seem to end up with those at the bottom of that bag. I guess I will solicit an invite here when I'm on.

Yeah, playing with random people is very hit or miss. The on nice thing about the clan is if there is a custom game, you just click on that person's name and you can join their game and their party. It's very simple.
I'm still reading about all of this as well. I had decent luck with random games, but it was the best when I joined the CHUD game last night.

Could I please get an invite, when someone gets the chance? My Live tag is Poulsonator.
It was a blast tearing it up with you guys (and tearing you guys up), but the fact that my connection is in the red almost every game seriously leaves me depressed; and living in a fraternity there's nothing I can do. So if we're ever about to load a game and one player fails to load the map it's a safe bet that player is me (Blunted730) and I apologize ahead of time.
I just set up XBox Live using the free two month trial - how can I get in on the CHUD Halo 2 goodness? I can't believe I waited this long to try Live, but Halo 2 is as good a reason as I can think of!

My Gamertag is: Lysander86

So how's it work?

Lys
Yeah, I had a sweet time killin' with the CHUD folks last night, although I wondered about the integrity of my headset. Either it was malfunctioning, or my teammates were too retarded to understand "Help me guard the flag and maybe we won't lose the game."
Goldberg, you know that you have to press the white button to open a com channel to your teammates, right? If you don't press that button, only the players standing right next to you can hear you.
Not saying we weren't retarded, by the way. We were definitely the Special Squad. But I never heard you talking last night.
Also, guys, stop shooting your fucking teammates... I can't tell you how often someone on my team would start capping me and I'd just stand there and move around, and not shoot back as to indicate, "I'm on you're fucking team!". If you can see an icon above someone's head, and/or your shooting reticle is green, DON'T SHOOT!

I think you go to Create party then go to options or configure or whatever that's next to Start Game and select "Switch to matchmaking" and select Minor or Major Clan Match and then get your clan members together and then I guess it finds another clan equal in size to you.

I'd try it but I don't know if Nick wants to allow members setting up clan games without his approval or whatever.

BTW, That game we chewers just had was awesome.
I know i don't ever post, but I read the site all the time, and the message boards frequently. All i have for live right now is Pandora Tomorrow, which kinda sucks live (meaning i suck at it) but it's no fun playing with those i don't know. i'm getting halo2 this week.

my gamertag is: YoungOdell

don't know if i can make it to lots of scheduled matches, but i'm just interested in playing with some chewers when i'm on.
I would also love to join the clan. Few of my friends play and I can barely stand most of the people in the random games. I usually just turn off all voice communication so I don't have to listen to them. I love the game, but constantly playing with morons is beginning to kill my enthusiasm.

My tag is Kyle Corkum. I'll send a message to Slater or Nick if necessary.
My gamertag is Jer Slater, for the record. Send me a friend request and I'll shoot you back a clan invite, Foley (and anybody else).

I know. I was pressing that button, every few minutes or so, talking, and didn't get one damn response. I mean, a simple "Shut your goddamn mouth you fucking Jew and guard the fucking flag!" would have been nice.

Awesome games so far guys. I can tell right now I need practice on the bomb run thingie.
I haven't played with some of the CHUD members yet, but I will. I'll be getting plently of Halo action in this weekend.
Four solid hours. Jesus. I've never binged on a game like this before. It's so great.

Excellent games tonight, gentlemen.
excellent game tonight. Although, whoever kept riding in the passenger seat in zanzibar bombing run...please realize that the bomb holder can only ride passenger so get the hell outta their way!

The party me slater and two others i forget were in and went against some random ppl was kind of interesting. That was kind of fun. I think we should really start practicing so we can take on some random hos out there in LIVE land.
I'm going to look into the clan stuff later on today.
Hey Slater. Is it you, Jer Slater, or Nick, CHUDcom, we send the friend request to? For the clan and all.

I think it would be fun to take up to eight people as a party into a Optimatch and play as a team. The more I keep playing with you guys I am beginning to see roles that people like to play. For example IRON CHEF is almost always a defender in CTF while I am flag runner and driver (there are a lot more but I think you get the point..LOL). When it comes to clan matches that will be the key. Setting up defined roles that people can follow. Setting up snipers, drivers, runners, flag protection, etc. The other main key is what Matt G talked about earlier and talking to each other. I admit I am pretty quiet (mostly because I am new..) but I can talk when needed..

I also think you'll need to set up a captain for certain clan matches. That way if everyone wants to play defense (in a two flag match - not that it would happen..LOL) the "captain" has to make final say. I don't think it even matters who it is, just as long as we all agree. Without a "final word" it would be hard to agree.

Okay I think I am done pontificating on the strategy of clan matches (to a bunch of people who continually kick my ass..

I guess it is my inner-geek and war gaming past taking over.. Ohh and I am all about clan "patches" for clan matches. It would be bad ass if our shoulder symbols matched when we were kicking "klukusklan" (a real clan name I saw on Bungie.net the other day..A-holes..) ass!

I love talking clan strategy also.. so feel free...
I don't like the idea of setting up organized match times for clan games, or assigning "bosses" or distinct roles or anything like that, personally. It seems to sap the fun out of the game. Let's face it...sometimes it's fun to guard the base in Coagulation and plasma stick any dumbass who comes flying out of the gravity lift, but sometimes it's fun to jump out of a speeding banshee at 150 feet and dive directly into the enemy base with both SMGs blazing, which I'll probably *never* be able to duplicate again. Forcing people to always be the sniper or the driver might improve our clan standings a bit, but it would be a lot less fun.

I really didn't mean to force someone.. Everyone should do what they want, just a little orginization. But I see your point... The whole point of the game is to have fun, I just think it depends on how you like to play the game.

If I was in a match and someone asked me to gaurd the flag, I probably would. It's a natural leader/soldier/folllower thing I guess. I can play both roles but being newer in a group you just try to fit in..

Alright I think I am really rambling now... I'll just go back to being cannon fodder for IRON CHEF TY, JER SLATER, BRAIN of JG, DARTH_CHOCULA, and many, many more...

I'll get better someday, damnit... LOL!
Hey, I just got the X-Box last night, and I hope to go live tonight or tomorrow. How is it playing with all these people who potentially live so far apart. Do you find that it lags alot? I only ask because I'd like to play, but I live in Delaware, thats pretty far from most people I suspect.
Well, sure, Trick. There were plenty of times in CTF when I would wait behind because nobody was guarding our base, just like there were other times when I would make a bombing run when our base seemed well defended. It's all about finding a balance.

These first few days, everybody is still learning the maps, the sniping spots, the item locations, the new games modes, etc. I'd imagine that as we all get better, our teamwork will likely improve.

And JimBeam, it doesn't matter *where* you live. I'm not close to anybody either. Lag depends mainly on your internet connection.
Thanks Slater. I'm a little new to this. Its good to know geography won't be a burden. I always thought the distance data had to travel might contribute to lag, as well as the connection. But I'll take it from someone who has been playing. Hopefully I'll see you guys out there soon.

I haven't noticed any lagging yet. I do hear people's communicator get funky sometimes.

Slater you didn't tell him that Delaware always lags.. LOL (you ever get sick of that Wayne's World joke yet? "Hi, I'm in Delaware...") Only kidding...

I agree that people will get better and teamwork will improve.. Half the time I spend trying to figure out where I am and I am still learning the maps, A LOT. I got so lost on Waterworks last night I didn't even realize there was another side... I feel pretty good on Zanzibar, Coagulation, and Ascension but thats about it. I also think last night was the first time I played Headlong..

So much to learn, so little time in the day to play... This weekend should rock though.. Don't have to worry about getting up for work the next day...

A couple of games last night were rough. You would have a guy right in front of you, then he would disappear and be right behind you. It was the best defense..EVER! LOL.. Or you would be driving your Warthog over a hill and next thing you know you make a huge jump..

It still ran pretty smooth but images just came and went..

I've only been in a few games, but its been fun so far. My previous mp exp is limited to a few 2-4 player Halo matches and an extensive history of playing goldeneye. So pardon the cluelessness when it comes to CTF, or Assault, or anything else.

My connection likes to drop on me, and I'm afraid that using 80211B is the culprit. I'll have to try just wires to see if it'll work better for me.

I'm thinking we get in some Swords on Lockout this weekend.

On a unrelated note, I would love to play an all sword match. I hear they are quite fun and pretty crazy...

Swords and 'Nades is pretty damn fun if only because sword kills are pretty easy to get, so even the worst player is sure to get some kills. And seeing all the bodies and swords littered on the ground is pretty cool.

For the record, if I didn't know better I would swear that Waynes World was the highest grossing film of all time. That is, judging from the number of people who recite that Delaware line to me. It seems that everyone knows it.

We got worked over a few times in those small clan matches, a little organization couldn't hurt.
