Tried Halo, Halo 2, DOA3, DOAU, KOTOR, Battlefront, Crimson Skies, John Carpenters the Thing, DVD cleaning Disc, deleted everything, phoned Xbox support...........and they say I have to mail my fucking Xbox to Kentucky........fuck that noise, then I tried the Halo 2 extra disc and that's the ONly disc I have that works, everything ese........DOSN't.

So....fucking...mad.

Anyone know if EB takes busted Xboxs cause I heard someone once say they took theirs but I don't know if that was true.

This fucking blows I was playing it the hour before it busted with Nick and the others, now I have to consider buying another one used or something.

Just to recap: FUCK

It sounds like you have a Philips or Thompson DVD-ROM that's died on you. It's strange that it still reads that one disc though. I would consider just buying a replacement DVD-ROM on ebay (Samsungs are best) and forgetting about repair centers if I were you. They're really easy to install. All you need is a torx screwdriver to get the box open. BUT, don't sue me if it's not the drive that's the problem.

I think i'll cave and buy a used Xbox, sure it'll be used and unsure.............but fuck this situation, I just wanna play.

The hard drive is the big problem, I unlocked a lot of stuff in DOAU and now I can't copy it, fuckity fuckaroo.

EB does take damaged X-Box's, but you get gouged. Sell it on eBay, or to someone you know with some basic mechanical prowess that can fix it. It sounds like a lense issue, since it's picking up the bonus DVD from Halo 2 but not the game disc. I'd recommend popping the top off the 'Box and cleaning the lens with a moist high-quality cotton swab (a la Q-Tip), then letting it dry out.

I had a PS2 that had the same problem, and that's all it took to get it working again. THEN I sold it to EB, and got me some Halo 2 for free...

That's a real bitch, Chocula. You were a blast on Halo 2 earlier last night. You were missed as the night carried on. Hope you get the problem resolved soon so we can see you around some more.

I'd imagine the way the thing is built and how heavy it is that it wouldn't break if he did.

How do I pop the top and does it mess up my Xbox Live?
and don't even tell me it voids warrenty, fuck the warrenty.

$169 for a used one, if I ever see Bill Gates i'm punching him in the junk.

Update: Oh my god opening up my Xbox looks very risky and annoying.

Should just be a couple of screws. Make sure not to lose them

Once you get the 'thick candy shell' off, take the lid off the CD/DVD drive, open up the tray (via the 'eject' button) and swab away. If that doesn't do the trick, lemme know, I'll see what else I can come up with.

It does not mess up your XBox Live... unless you like, cut some wires or some shit. You aren't attempting to reset your network properties, and you should be able to do all of this while it's still plugged in (although as anyone can tell you, that has the possibility of being dangerous, so be forewarned). If you power it down and unplug it prior to opening it up, I think you should still be fine.

I'm thinking of going to the store to get the tools to crack it open but it all sounds so risky, I also don't have any lens cleaner, only windex stuff.

God damn Microsoft, it never messed up until last night..........

and I dunno if cleaning it will help, it makes strange sounds inside, think i'll just get another one used, thing is, my debit card only allows for $100 withdrawals a day and it's $169, stupid ass Disc errors....

Have any rubbing alcohol? If not, go buy some... it comes in handy all the time, for me.

No I got some, thing is I don't think it's the lens so I don't really wanna waste my money on buying tools that won't help [Torx wrench thing]

It loaded Halo and Halo 2 once this morning, only once for each, and with both I didn't have my save file on the HD anymore so I turned it off to put it on the HD from my MC and then they didn't work again, even after deleting them again [still have them on my MC] the game also loaded terribly slowly, Halo 2 had a thing saying "Loading ##%" before the main screen, something that never hapened before.

What a draaaaaaaaaaaaaaag

If it's not the lens, it's probably the drive itself, which you will need to tool to use to get a new drive in there (if you choose to go that route with it). Tool shouldn't cost you much at all.

I think ordering a new drive would be too much of a hassle, i'd much rather just buy a new system.

After which i'd gouge out someones eyes.......

Well... isn't the second Halo 2 disc a DVD? Do you use your Xbox to play DVD movies?
if you go to an electronics repair store they could fix it for you for about $70 bucks.

Where did you score a copy of Shaun of the dead ? I didn't think it was out yet....
A little off topic, but I'm curious

If you are serioulsy considering buying another XBox do so at Best Buy.

They have a $20 replacement program that covers anything that goes wrong with the system (excluding abuse). You just bring it in to any Best Buy and you go pick up a new one off the shelf. You don't have to send it in anywhere or wait for it to get mailed back- that day you get a new system.

My Samsung drive just broke recently, I was/am pretty mad. I would simply replace the system, but I really don't want to lose my music. My drive read CD-R's, and much of the music is irreplacable at this point. Does anyone know if songs can be transferred to another Xbox through the system link? Thanks in advance.
