Just joking around. I think all those Matrix extras are dulling your senses.

I think it's a really good poster, but I'm curious to see this regardless of how it's marketed. I like Keanu. The movie itself sounds interesting, but I don't know much about the comic, so I'll go with Nick's hopes that it's good as a movie one way or the other.

the poster is great, but I will still not see this movie. see, I love the comic, and don't particularly want to spend 90+ minutes being annoyed by Hollywood completely fucking it up.

I am grateful for the movie being a reason for DC to release some cool Hellblazer books though.

EDIT: there are some test screening reviews on AICN which will make any Hellblazer fan weep (it's clear that Warner Bros really didn't get the comic AT ALL).

It should've been Danny Boyle. It should've been with Paul Bettany and shot in England. It should've been Dangerous Habits.

This poster is the first thing I've seen from this production that reminds me of Hellblazer.

Am I going to see it? Yeah, probally.

Reviews have actually been fairly good, but when will someone who's actually read Hellblazer see it? Still, from everything I've read, it's clear that there's very little similarity in personality to the comic book characters, no similarity in looks or setting, and tossing in religious gadgetry is just silly. There does appear to be some similarity in themes and the type of story being told, but that's about it for faithfulness. It might still be a good genre picture, but it's looking like a poor adaptation.

Rath is 100% right about everything.

I read all the incredible nitpicking about Dr Doom's mask in another thread and laughed to myself about how petty some people can be, but then I turn around and want to do the exact same thing about this property. There's so much I want to complain and bitch about ('Dangerous Habits', translated word for word, frame for frame would have been the perfect film - hell, get Gus Van Sant to do it! He loves tracing!), but then, anything from Vertigo is instantly going to get a shithouse movie treatment for the obvious reasons.

The worst of it all, though, will come in a few months when the film hits cinemas and my almost daily conversation with any random workmate at the office about the John Constantine figure on my desk will go from -

Workmate: "Who's that guy?"
Me: "The one with all the guns and the skull?"
Workmate: "No, the other one."
Me: "The guy with a preacher's collar and cowboy boots?"
Workmate: "No, the blonde guy in the trenchcoat."
Me: "That's John Constantine."
Workmate: "Who's that?"
Me: "He's a comic character."
Workmate: "Oh."

Workmate: "It doesn't look a thing like Keanu Reeves!"
Me: "Fuck off, donkeypuncher."

On a side note: People (myself included) were saying that if the producers this film so desperately needed a star to play Constantine, Jude Law would have been a great choice (not as good as Paul Bettany, but since Law is much better known, it's a very acceptable substitute, if bankability is a deciding factor).

Seeing as how Law has been all but declared box office poison this year after his failure to carry either SKY CAPTAIN or ALFIE to decent box office, I'm guessing the producers are feeling somewhat vindicated in their casting choice. As loathe as I am to admit it, I don't think their is a suitable, bankable enough British star to have carried this movie at the box office.

But still, Keanu......!?!

I love that idea. Almost as much as I loved it when I came up with it last time Constantine was discussed.
