CIA Plans Riskier, More Aggressive Espionage
(USATODAY.com) - CIA Director Porter Goss told his new chief of spy operations this week to launch a much more aggressive espionage campaign that would use undercover officers to penetrate terrorist groups and hostile governments such as North Korea and Iran, according to a senior U.S. official with direct knowledge of Goss' plans. The risky new strategy would be a sharp departure from the CIA's traditional style of human intelligence, in which field officers under flimsy cover as diplomats in U.S. embassies try to recruit foreign spies and gather tips from allied intelligence services.

I was wondering if maybe USA Today could have simply stated, "US spies, Bill Wilson of 213 Cherry Lane in Youngstown, Ohio and Dick Dickson of 1010 Noble Way in Poughkeepsie, New York, are excited to infiltrate North Korea and are looking forward to their first stop at the Ambassador Hotel on December 3rd at 9:00 AM."

Our adversaries need only read our papers and watch our broadcasts to stay a step ahead of us. Where's Byron Price when you need him?

Apparantly, no one else sees this as a problem or a good thing. Ah, well. On to the next topic.

Viva la 4th Estate.
