Blade Trinity a 15 in the UK

Blade Trinity is a 15 in the UK, the other 2 were 18s.

What does this mean?

A toned down film or are the BBFC getting ever more lenient?

The BBFC are getting very lenient (or perhaps treating the English public with a tiny bit of respect). fantasy, non-repeatable violence is seen as all right. Starship troopers was a 15 in the cinema. interestingly, so did Bad Boys 2, suggesting that they felt it was a fantasy film.
it could mean that Blade 3's tone is more openly comic book rather than grim and realistic. judging by the design of dracula that might not be too far from the truth.

Contains strong violence, language and horror

I'd say the latter...

I mean look at Shaun of the Dead and Dog Soldiers

I have a good drinking buddy at the BBFC and it pretty much goes without saying that tonae is the overiding concern. If it's not sexually aggressive (a long standing bastion that stretches to the more agressive use of the term "cunt" in The Human Stain rendering it an 18) and doesn't involve children in an graphically perilous way (Mimic = good, City Of God = not so good) then pretty much anything goes with genre pictures.

Hell, The Passion Of The Christ was given an initial 15 certification (quite why this was retracted is up to the gods of certification).

He's got some stories.

They should interview BBFC people on DVDs, that would be fun!

It did in Shaun of the Dead

Again totally contextual: humourous aside akin to calling someone a "cock": 15. Threatening a woman or overly graphic sexual descriptiom: 18.

Nonsensical seeing as we can legally climb inside one at 16, and one of the last bastions of bizarre taboo, sure (it's okay to call a guy by his anatomy, but not a girl ? Just sayin'.), But that's Little Britain for you.

I think it did in Bridget Jones' Diary too.

Personally, I don't have any worries about Blade II being a 15.

Actually Bridget Jones distributor had to cut the "cunt" to get a 15. Hugh Grant called some chick a "ham fisted cunt" thereby violating the "not against women" rule (and given the demographic for this picture, I can see their point, but I'm guessing that's in the book ? Wierd.)

Anyway, it was ADR'ed with "cow" or something similar. But on the audio commentary, recorded before certification, you can allegedly hear the original "cunt" in the background track playing under director Sharon Maguire's yapping.

As for BLADE, I figure this is a good place to ask...

Even with the action elements, would you consider the BLADE films to be horror films?

I would say that they are predominantly horror films although it seems that this one will be the least horrific but i won't be able to tell until i've seen it in a couple of weeks time

action-horror? horror-action?

Horror films, as a generalisation, either try to gross the audience out or scare them shitless. I think (well, i hope) that the first too weren't trying to scare me. beyond a few boo-scares they were all about ass-kicking and looking cool.
