ALEXANDER - Discussion

Thread Starter
I saw this last week, and didn't really care for it so much. I enjoy historical epics, but the acting wasn't so hot and the accents really just distracted me from the plot. Particularly in the cases of Rosario Dawson and Angelina Jolie. Jared Leto and Colin Farrell's love affair wasn't that scandalous, and the cock shot... well... big fucking deal, we all watch porn anyways. Dawson does have some beautiful breasts though.

The main point to this post is to ask a continuity question... I don't know if anyone addressed this in a different thread/forum, or whether my brain is just making this up but, I could have sworn 'old' Ptolemy (Hopkins) had a scar over his right eye in the first few scenes of the movie, and then later on I thought it showed up over his left eye. Anyone else here with that, or was it just my brain looking for ways to avoid thinking about the movie?

This movie was very odd. I thought that some parts of it were great, like the final battle in India. However, the movie jumped over the most important part of the story, which is to say: how and why EXACTLY does Alexander decide he needs to conquer the world? The whole Anthony Hopkins character parts should have been killed in the second rewrite. NO movie should have to resort to this kind of narrative structure. Why can't moviemakers figure this out already? It drives me completely crazy. Focus on the characters that drive the story. Have THEIR actions and dialogue tell the story. Angelina Jolie overacted so badly it was hard to stay in the movie. Other than that, I didn't think that the acting was bad at all. Jared Leto was especially great. The movie would have done better to focus more on his character.
