You know you love it.

Who doesn't love acronyms? Who doesn't love this film in all it's glorious low budget goodness?

this was one of the first movies I ever rented. friends & I watched it about a half dozen times in a row that night. it's not really that great but it seemed so to us at the time! it does have some camp appeal and the plot is not as bad as say, Alligator... --how about the Fed's line, "we don't have to listen to the lunatic ravings of this paranoid hippy!"

one thing I never knew until I got his on DVD recently: the VHS I had watched as a kid was significantly re-edited and re-dubbed vs the new DVD, which is the original director's theatrical version (which probably nobody ever saw before this DVD). so for example the DVD logically places the scene where (only slightly less fat) john goodman-cop and friends get eaten in the diner in the middle of the movie, instead of using it as a tack-on "shock ending" as the VHS did. Also for example on the VHS, when the old man in the phone booth gets eaten, you can hear the person on the other end of the line making a joke about "did you eat some bad chili" or something-- that is excised from the DVD...

It's been so long since I have seen the original that I really don't remember the difference. All I remember is the CHUD creatures, the people trapped in the sewers, and then the police blocking all the man-hole covers.

Good movie with a decent plot, but they got away from it at the end with the unnecessary shower scene (lame) and the neck-stretch CHUD (what the hell?). Could have had more CHUD action as well because they looked great. The DVD has an easter egg that shows the nudity from that shower scene (which was not shown during the movie).

I'm guessing it was a homage to the Blob and or Psycho. Honestly, I thought that was the coolest part of the movie. But yeah, in the context of the whole film, it made shit worth of sense.

I'm guessing a Evil Dead nod. And ditto on it making no sense to the rest of the film. Maybe that has something to do with her drawing blood out of the shower drain. Maybe the creature was stretching up the pipe to finger bang her?

Mmmm. I shall have to check that out.

The commentary on this DVD is worth the purchase price even if you hated the movie. Featured in the commentary are John Heard, Christopher Curry, and Daniel Stern, along with director Douglas Cheek and Shephard Abbott.

It's freaking hilarious and the comments about Stern's hair are golden. Plus when they start talking about how so and so had a nice ass. Fucking hilarious.
