What's worth to check out in London?

i just moved to london two months ago. i recognised that there are quite a few people on the board from over here.

i therefore wondered whether you could recommend some clubs, bars, restaurants etc. worth checking out?

so far i did go to places like the end, the cross, fabric, old street, shoreditch etc. while i enjoyed it, i am now more concentrated on underground and warehouse parties/bars as they are not so crowded and have friendlier folks.

so what do you do? any bar/club or nice restaurant you can recommend?

Where are you based and what sort of music are you into?

there are quite a few places in North London i like, but our tastes may be massively different. i don't want to send somewhere you'll hate.

equally, you could recommed some places to me (and tell me why you liked them). London's so big there's always stuff you haven't seen.

I just moved to Islington, N1. I have mostly been going out North during the last few weeks, so I guessed it would make sense to move there. Additionally it is quite close to my office.

Music-wise I am quite open as long as it is not generic house or disco music or r&b, soul etc. E.g. Detroit, Minimal, Techhouse, Techno, Electro, Glitch, D'n'B...

What are you preferring?

A-ha. seeing as i didn't recongnise half of those genres you mentioned i think our tastes are a little different. recently i have been mostly going to acoustic open mic nights and gigs in Finsbury park and Stoke Newington. i don't think my recommendations will do you much good, other than to avoid Upper Street on friday and saturday night. the resturants are pretty much all good there though.
there are quite a few good out of the way pubs in barnsbury. i'll get the addresses and post them up maybe sometime tonight (or tomorrow morning.)
Living in the N1 area myself i think you've picked a great place to move to. fucking great for transport.

Well, I forgot to mention that I also like Alternative, Indie, Punk, Hardcore etc. Don't know why, but I concentrated more on the electronic music side in my last post. So this is my rock side. I also like bars which are a bit different to all the regular English pubs as long as they are not too poshy. Alternative is always good.

Yeah, so far I am pretty happy up North. I was in Stoke Newington last weekend at a party. For me London is still a huge jigsaw. I am just trying to put bits and pieces together...

I really liked some of the bars in Shoreditch although I forgot all their names. Need to start memorising them (next time).

Lowlife or Thirst to chill.

333 for dancing.

It's really hard to go wrong on a night out in London. I've been to a bunch of other great places but I can't remember the names or precisely where they were... or much of anything at all about those nights except that they were good. Have you been to 333 yet? Of those three I named I think it's closest to your area.

Have you got an A to Z yet?

Yeah, I got an A-Z. Would be pretty lost without it.

I know 333. Never been in yet, though. I once queued but left when it wasn't really moving. Brits really love their queues, don't they? Unbelievable sometimes. Wanted to go to Fabric two weeks ago. The queue was already about 150-200 and growing and the club apparently already quite full. I just don't understand how someone still can queue in that case, so we moved on. Getting used to it to some extent though, although I have my limits which seem to be far beyond everone elses here.

I will try to check out Lowlife andf Thirst soon. Thanks for the tips!

Was at PlasticPeople a few weeks ago, which was quite good. Not on a weekend though, either during the week or Sunday.

I saw about 40 people cueing up to get into the Hagan Daz restaurant in Leicester square. this was at 10pm this Tuesday and you all know how cold it was.

This confused me.

Anyway good to know dance isn't dead, whatever the 'Brits' awards have to say on the matter.

I went to Fabric for the first time about a month back to see Ian Brown and Scratch Perverts - that's the best place I've been to altough I generally don't go to places that play techno and electronic stuff.
