Ok folks, movies dont really scare me or my girlfriend at all, and she and i are looking for something that would be genuinely scary. (yea im lame, i know) so i knew just the right people to ask. im sure you guys can come up with something.

the only movie that has ever really scared me was jaws. now it does no longer.

any thoughts?

Hmmm. To be honest, I have the same problem. It all depends on what scares you. If you have any phobias, then you can maybe search for any movies that deal with those fears.

Maybe if you could list something that you are scared of in real life? If not, there's always things like pop-up scares, but if you're going for genuine, then you might have to do some research, which sounds crazy.

"The Lady in White" scared me when I was a kid. It probably wouldn't have the same effect on me now, but there might be some moments in it where it creeps you out.

You've seen The Exorcist, right? It won't seem so scary while you're actually watching it, but soon afterwards you'll start thinking about all the subliminal images scattered all through it, and it'll get to you.

I can't really recommend some good "jump scare" movies, because to be honest they never really make me jump. And most horror movies I've seen lately have been all about creeping or grossing the audience out, rather than really scaring them.

Steve O, what do you think would scare you : ghost stories ??? serial killers ??? monsters ???

Are you up for subtitles ??? ...

TALE OF TWO SISTERS and KAIRO are two very scary films, but you'll need a region-free DVD player ( a must in my book ) ...

As far as easier to obtain films:

If mannequins creep you out, try TOURIST TRAP ...

Ghost stories, check out WOMAN IN BLACK and THE CHANGELING

Insanity, knifes and raincoats ??? try ALICE, SWEET ALICE

or for something borderline horror / drama that will stay with you for awhile, go for PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK ...

Are you looking for like a fun scary movie or something that will disturb you? If all you want is jump scares try Ju-On: The Grudge. If you want something more disturbing maybe try Seven or Videodrome. Anything Carpenter directs is fun especially The Thing and Halloween. Evil Dead is creepy but some of the effects are pretty dated. If you haven't seen Night of The Living Dead its a classic, likewise with Alien.

Kubrick's The Shining seconded. Very scary movie. Those horrible twin girls always give me the creeps--- brrrrrrr!

The original Nightmare on Elm St. is a scary movie.

Also since it's the holidays check out Black Christmas, very suspenseful and scary.

You see the problem is these days is that all horror movies suck ass. They're either relying on special effects, jump scares or remaking mediocre asian horrors, most of which are over-rated in the first place. They never just creep you out anymore, a truly scary film for me is one that lives in the mind...something that disturbs you, and not because it was gory.

A quick couple, I'll give you a much better list later but I'm very tired so of the couple I've watched again lately...

John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness - Creeps the fucking shit out of me, I think it's very under-rated.

70's remake of Invasion of the BodySnatchers - this movie always knocks me on my ass, I'm afraid to go up the stairs after even at my age.

Donald Sutherland, that reminds me...check out Don't Look Now! You'll wonder how it's a horror for a long while but you'll never forget it, and I'll wish until the end of my days I could get the visions of the final moment out of my head. hehe

Anyway, more later...

we'll definitely look at invasion (both the original and remake, cause we're cool like that)

i love prince of darkness and in the mouth of madness (which are officially the weirdest movies i have ever seen) and im trying to get her to see em, she seems to be all for it

Trust me, just remember it as a creepy little movie and don't ever bother to watch it again.

I would recommend THE EYE (the first 45 minutes of that film are the scariest I've seen in many years), and by the way, who said JU-ON: THE GRUDGE was full of jump scares? There were a few I'll admit, but I think the overall vibe of that movie is mucho disturbing. The American version of THE GRUDGE was much more jump scare oriented than JU-ON. Check out The Eye. Pretty creepy stuff.
