The crappy DVD packaging thread... - Page 2

Thread Starter
I figured I'd resurrect this thread just for the new Simpsons set.
A friend of mine bought it the other day, and boy does it suck. Good thing they give you the option for the "original style" box, or I would never buy this, and that's saying a lot because the Simpsons is one of my favorite shows, and season 6 is among it's best. Hopefully the next 4 sets will have the option of the "regular" boxes as well, or I'm not touching them with a ten foot pole.
That said, it does kind of look cool.

As I said in another thread, "this could come in an electronic slipcase repeatedly playing the video file of that guy getting fucked to death by the horse and I'd still run to the store to buy it." Which I already have. Because it's greatness.

Whoa whoa whoa...this is the first time I hear about a guy getting killed by horse-fuck.

Please, explain more about this.

the European version is in one of those booklet packages.

you can see pics of it here. (scroll down the page).

Totally agree, my Region 2 is still holding up very well; whilst Region 1 got stuck with the "Accordion of Doom" (tm) ...don't exactly understand why Americans got screwed over on this DVD set compared to us Europeans, but it makes a nice change!!

The Japanese version of the Alien set was the best. It came in a giant plastic Alien head....

It came in a giant plastic Alien head....

I'm sorry to say this Angry Badger, but while I agree that the packaging is wonderful, your last post is just BEGGING for a bukkake joke.

Or am I in the wrong here.... ?

(And while off-subject, was it intentional on your part or am I indeed one of the few who use four ellipsis, Golgo 13-style?)

I brought this bastard back when the first of the Futurama movies was released, but that was lost in the revamp.

Anyways, There Will Be Blood deserved a better special edition, for one, but it certainly deserved a package thicker than a greeting card. I've seen both the single and double disc packaging opened up, and they both stink to high heaven. Sleeves and easily-scratched discs just don't mix.
At least the double will look a bit better on your shelf.

I wish my Criterion editions of Slacker, Dazed & Confused and Two-Lane Blacktop weren't all cardboard. Ditto my super-special Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead sets from Anchor Bay.

The Wall-E 3 disc packaging can blow me. I didn't pay 30+ bucks for discs that are scuffed right out of the box. Stop the sleeve bullshit, please. The 3rd disc "digital copy"? Not a fucking mark on it.

At least with There Will Be Blood a slim CD case will fit in that package nicely.

But, really, if you're buying Charmed: THE COMPLETE SERIES, don't you really deserve whatever you get?

More annoying per say

but the pirates of the carrabbean blu ray decides to pack in a lot of promo material into those thin little blu cases. I didn't even know it came with a 2nd disc till i bothered to remove it.

reminded me of a magazine....

My copy of the HITCHCOCK PREMIERE collection was all warbled and skuffed to hell - including REBECCA (which, for all intents and purposes, is shitty beyond belief. Love that film). Even crappier is I can't return it as it was a gift, and Fox's home video department has yet to return my e-mail. Lame.
I wish the studios would start making a black case the size of the blu-ray ones. It's a waste of space and plastic to keep making the behemoth cases anymore. Most artwork is crappy, and the days of nifty SE packaging are long gone.

simpsons season 11 is the worst

a disc death trap
I'm surprised that the Newsradio complete series box hasn't been mentioned yet; aparently the 12 discs are just stacked on top of each other and just shoved into a box.

After seeing the trailer, I can tell you Val is actually fat with long hair and glasses in this:

I just opened my copy of this for the first time last night. I was at first bewildered as to where the discs actually WERE. The plentiful interior art is cool, but yeah, can't be the best way to store these.

I hate those "Eco-Box" dvd cases with the recycle logo cut out of them. I have had 2 cases break down the spine because they are so cheaply made.

The fucking WIRE box set. I still haven't taken my discs to get them buffed (hopefully soon!) but practically everything in S2 is scratched thanks to those stupid goddamn cardboard sleeves. I'm afraid to look at the others.
