White Noise and e.v.p.

Since seeing the trailer for the movie, I have been getting more interested in e.v.p.
The problem I'm having though is that I can't seem to find any hard evidence on the web to credit or discredit the phenomenon. Something that can say "We've done these tests and can say that this is authentic/a hoax/ etc., because of these facts..." I have heard a lot of the samples and some of them are truly bone chilling. There are also some that sound completely fake or explainable. (barking dogs, banjos playing?) I was just wondering what everyone thought about this, and maybe see if someone knows of any scientific evidence to back any of this up? Something more than "I recorded this and I swear I was the only one there..."

snopes is also an anagram of "nope, ss"

eerie, given the skeptical nature of the site.

definitely want to see this movie, by the way. "Get out of my house."

evps are very hard to credit and very hard to discredit. Basically you'll find people on both sides of the fence.

The trailer for this film is awesome... like a 2.5 minute version of Unsolved Mysteries or something... but it's probably just a great ploy for another generic hollywood ghost movie. What I've seen of actual clips from the movie doesn't actually tell me any different

This was the most interesting of the sites I came across (the Utah Ghost Hunter's Society, or UGH)
It seems like a historic site (ie, not updated recently)

A lot of the evps sound like making something out of ambient noise... but there are some that are pretty weird.

Thiswas my favourite, the haunted rocker story: http://www.ghostwave.com/rocker.html

Change the word 'evps' to 'paranormal activities' and I think you're on to something there! The movie looks like it will squander an interesting idea. Why not take this idea and make a serious drama out of it instead of a ghost story thriller? You'd think people would have learned that the normal personal drama stories with an element of the supernatural or sci-fi tend to get people more excited than straight up gimmick movies.

You don't even have to look anything up to know that the mainstream scientific community regards recording voices of dead people as pseudoscience and that it's supported by people who listen to Art Bell.

I find E.V.P. to be a really fascinating and disturbing idea, I agree that it would be better suited to a serious dark drama than a cheap thriller, but hopefully the material will be used properly in the future.

Shit, I just started listening to some of those recordings, and a lot of them make me shudder and I have to turn them off. I'm not sure if it's because of the high frequency or the idea of it.

Dr. Phil says the movie is excellent.

'05 is the year of Keaton! By the way, he was hilarious on The Tonight Show last week. The scene they showed looked promising. I can't wait to see this!
