That would be interesting...

Well, I'm going on a few set visits at the end of the month and am staying an extra day to walk around, visit the aquarium, and hopefully look at real estate/meet some Chewers.

What's up Nick? Unless I have class, I'm up for something.
You visited Vancouver for the Dreamcatcher shoot a couple of years ago, didn't you, Nick? Nice town.
it'd be nice, you have a fave spot? It's where I'm at
post #7 of 70
I'll be in Vancouver attendenting a conference for geologists from the 24 – 27, if that fits your schedule, I can make time. Unless, of course, I lose my temper and shoot one of Vancouver's criminally untalented drivers. In which case I'll be in prison playing golf.
Just say when and where and I'd be happy to show up.

(if you would like some recommendations for meeting places let us know.)
Nick, do you know yet exactly which days you'll be in town?

Looks like it'll be the 19th - 22nd or so. More details soon.

Excellent timing. I'm certain I can arrange to meet anywhere after the 19th; I can make time. I'm sure I can work something out for the 19th too.

Arrive the 19th. Leave the 21st.
I'm good for something on the 20th and 21st. 19th I have to be on campus from morning till night so that kinda blows. But I'm definitely interested in meeting you and hopefully some other chewers.
I have nothing to do those days so i'm up for coffee......just name the time and the place.
Well, I have no friends and no job, so I might as well tag along.
it would be cool to put a face or two on some of these posts. Actually I think one face per person would be ideal. Keep us posted on a time thats good for you Nick, and maybe some of the locals can come up with a place.
Nick, do you know yet roughly what areas your travels will take you to? Will you generally stay in the downtown area of Vancouver or venture into the outlying cities: Surrey, Delta, Langley?

My hotel's in the city and I'm not sure where the movies will be being shot. I'll be there tomorrow and have no idea what times I'll be on set and what times I'll be able to hang with humans. I'll post as soon as my schedule is known. I'd assume tomorrow evening or Thursday evening will work. A good chance that Friday morning-afterneoon I might be free.
Hope you like rain, sky's been taking a giant piss for a couple days now.
Yeah. We're talking monsoon season rains right now. At least it killed all the snow and ice that had accumulated from that cold snap.

Just waiting on the where and when now.
Post your timetable/schedule thing when you get it Nick. If you are downtown (and it sounds like you are) Granville and or Robson street(s) has a ton of coffee shops and the occasional Irish pub if we want to go that way. If anyone else has another location in mind, might be good idea to start throwing them out there....
Yeah, I can be there Thursday evening, or Friday morning/afternoon. My prof might rip me a new butthole if I miss his classes tomorrow though

schedule wise anything after 5 wed- thurs would be pretty good. Friday nite's a possibilty but it would have to be farly early in the evening. A friend is celebrating a birthday that night.
So do we get nametags?
I work til 5 in Richmond (a suburb) and I'll be working from home this sat. and sun. so I'll be shackled to my computer. Evenings during the week would be best for me.
email sent.......is it supposed to be "tmail" though? It's like hotmail got cut off or something....

It's TMAIL. I'm at the Hotel collapsed. I emailed all the folks who emailed me. For the MB folks who didn't... drinks/food tonight?
Sounds good. I'm gonna head home first and freshen up then take a train downtown. Do we have a destination or are we just gonna meet somewhere first?
I'd love to food up with the chewers tonight
post #31 of 70
Have a great time. Just don't drown and avoid North Vancouver. A state of emergency has been called for that area by the provincial government.

What happens there?
Haven't heard anything about it, but my guess is torrential rains+mountains = slides of some sort. Hope whatever you're covering isn't filming at Lion's Gate Studios.

EDIT: I was right. Here's a link - North Vancouver is slidey right now

Come to think of it I hope my folks are okay too. I grew up over there.

EDIT 2: The folks are fine. This happened in Deep Cove area and they're upper Lonsdale. Other side of the city. Apparently the creek in their backyard has moved from babbling brook status to Nazghul-drowning torrent minus the horsies though.
Mudslides = teh suck. Good thing I live in Burnaby nicely above water level, near no large hills or mountains.

Anyway, I'm pretty much good anytime, so once we get a time and a place, I'll be there.

Ok just called Nick. Here's the plan:

Meet in the lobby of the Sutton Place at 7:30 pm and take it from there.

For those of you who don't have the address, Here it is.:

La Grande Residence At The Sutton Place Hotel
855 Burrard, Vancouver, BC V6Z2K6
(604) 682-5511

If you don't know what Nick looks like, look for me. I'm about 6'9" w/ brown curly hair annd brown eyes. I answer to the name of Brian, and I will be wearing a navy blue jacket and jeans. If I'm not in the lobby I'll be in the bar.

Oh, and Nick has requested that no assassins attend, character or otherwise. (He wasn't specific.)

I'm roughly half Brian's height, wearing brown slacks and a blue polo. No beard. I'll the guy yammering into a cell phone that looks like a 90 inch vibrator.
Well, I tried to get there, but my bus was 5 minutes early, beating my 4 minutes early, so I tried waiting for the next bus and once it hit the 10 minutes late mark, I decided I didn't like waiting a half hour in the rain so I said fuck it. Didn't feel like showing up 45 minutes late.

Anyway, if you guys are going to meet again, keep us informed and I'll try to show up this time.
Could've used the company Oerwinde......

I'll just say the bus driver took forever and reminded me

A) They increased bus fares to $2.25
b) That money hasn't done Jack[son] shit

Showed up late.............shit.

got the number for Nicks cell after phoning my friend to access the email he sent out, phoned hoping they were still in the area, answering machine....fighting a minotaur......left a feeble message...looked around Virgin records.......came back here.........stupid rain........burnt my hand getting some soup.......having a LOUSY night

So in short I can make it for the other days..........and I will show up early next time....
Sorry I couldn't meet with you guys but I had a class tonight. Like Oerwinde, if you guys are doing anything else at any point in the next two days or so, I'm game.

Friday night. FOR SURE.

Tonight was terrific. Truly terrific. great fun.
I had fun Nick. It was great to finally meet you after so many years of reading your writing. Sorry if I seemed quiet, but it's mid-work week, I've been fighting a low-key flu thing for a llittle while... blah blah blah. Anyways I was not on my "A" game.

We going again on Friday? Most excellent. I'll try to be a little more my effervescent self then. Maybe I'll prepare some deep incisive questions... Nah fuck it I'll just drink more (a LOT more) and pick a fight (and lose)with Tom Wilkinson if we see him again.
Cool, I'll make sure to shower in the morning instead of before I leave, that way maybe I can beat the bus.
a good time was had by all (myself included). It was great meeting everyone for sure. Don't think I can make it on friday, so enjoy yourselves. And hey, thanks for the beer !!!

Yes, Tom Wilkinson.

He walked into the hotel bar where Nick was holding court last night. I stood next to him when I went outside for a smoke too. Pretty tall dude... say 6'3" or so. As one of our party noted, "He seemed to like the energy our table was giving off..." because he kept looking over at us and smiling. That or we were just being a bunch of loud drunken idiots and he was too polite and british to tell us to STFU.
