TWILIGHT ZONE: THE MOVIE
KING OF THE HILL
HEARTS OF DARKNESS: A FILMMAKER'S APOCALYPSE

TV Shows:

ON THE AIR
AEON FLUX
POLICE SQUAD!

A good widescreen version of The Jerk with a good commentary. I would be interested in hearing what Steve Martin had to say about it now.

A nice version of Grand Prix. They need to get James Garner, Jackie Stewart, and maybe one of the current F-1 drivers, to do a commentary and maybe one have another one with some of the surviving production people. They need to do this before all these people are gone. The movie has some the most beautiful shots of late ‘60s F-1 cars and circuits. I want it.

Robin Hood: Men in Tights
Lost Season One, after all the episodes have been aired

Good news! Apparently, it's in the works, along with THE STING: SE and THE BIG LEBOWSKI: SE.

Bad news! All three titles are from Universal. So I wouldn't be surprised if the new transfers get screwed up or the extras are completely vapid.
All I want from Universal is a good version of JAWS, THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN, and TARANTULA!

What's wrong with the current one? I mean, it's no multi-disc LOTR or ALIEN QUAD but I would consider it "good." "Excellent?" No. "Good?" Sure.
To me, the sound mix feels A: very flat and B: has rerecorded elements, which I'm not a fan of (MGM take note!). Plus the two-hour LD documentary edited down to about forty-five minutes. I'd say it's average with a great transfer.
Delicatessan would be great. Also, Lelouch's version of Les Miserables.

Santa Sangre for sure. And I'd love for Holy Mountain and El Topo to be available, just so I can finally see the damn things.
If you're multi-region Dave, there's a UK SE of SANTA SANGRE available. I have it, but haven't given it a spin yet.
Thanks! I just checked out amazon UK, and it looks like a nice package, too. I think there might be a way to make my DVD player region free, but I haven't gotten around to trying it yet. When I do and if it works, Santa Sangre will definitely be a purchase.

Compared to what? To the original MONO mix?

Neither am I. But the re-recorded effects in JAWS don't bother me nearly as much as the ones in the SUPERMAN or STAR WARS TRILOGY remixes.

Actually, 59 minutes, 26 seconds. I've got the 2-hour-plus version on LD, and it's very good. But it's not that monumentally great to be so concerned about the DVD cut-down. It's more like "great by association." It's kind of hard to screw up a documentary on a film as wonderful as JAWS. And back in the LD era when "making-ofs" still had the gee-whiz factor, it might have been worth the fuss. Now? Not so much. Considering how safe and reverential all of Spielberg's documentaries are, I think an hour of fawning is plenty.

I was kinda shocked to see that the E! True Hollywood Story on JAWS contained a bunch of behind-the-scenes footage and interviews (including the late Robert Shaw in costume as Quint!), much of which was nowhere to be seen in either the DVD or LD docos.

Fair enough. I can agree with that. I just think there are PLENTY worse releases from Universal that could use some luvin'.
Oh I definitely agree about that, I just think for such a prestige title, JAWS just deserves a bit more loving. Especially since we got three-disc sets of VAN HELSING (although I think one of those discs contained the Whale/Browning fllicks).

But it should matter. I'll take quality over quantity any day of the week. Keep in mind, many documentaries are edited down from literally hundreds of hours of footage. Do you feel cheated that they don't release ALL of that raw material? Do you really want to sit through all of that shit?

On second thought, don't answer that. I know what you'll say!
Kicking and Screaming - Noah Baumbach's debut film, not the upcoming Will Ferrell soccer movie. I love this movie and would buy it on VHS, but I don't even have a VCR in my living room anymore.

I've also got to agree with everyone who mentioned the animted The Tick.
after watching Harold and Kumar last night.. I was wondering..

is the show OFF CENTRE on DVD. That was a fun show that unfortunately didnt last but had some pretty good laughs in it. I think it showed how funny John Cho could be.
Kyle Reese, I thought I was the only one that remembered "Profit" with Adrian Pasdar (I think). That show ruled.

I would like to see:

Across the Pacific (Bogart)
Captain Blood (Flynn)
Original Blade Runner
The Adventures of Pete and Pete

Rolling Thunder

The Incredible Shrinking Man

Vice Squad

more as they come to me...

Things I'd sell my spleen to get, and I needs my spleen... I think.

G VS E / GOOD VS EVIL - that's what it is!
The Flash (90's vers... I think it's getting held back due to a lawsuit about payments owed to the creator of the Barry Allen character)
Space: Above And Beyond
Vengeance: Unlimited
And dear lord Twin Peaks Season 2 already!!!
Profit - (it's coming http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=2649 )

I'll second Danger: Diabolik -(Amazon has it listed with a release date which was switched from late '04 to 2010... go figure)
DC Cab - oh, why not?

and to get really obscure
Love and Hate: The Story of Colin and Joanne Thatcher (a Canadian tv mini series)
I just thought of a few more tv shows I'd like to see on DVD.

Strange Luck (I can't be the only one who liked it)

John Doe

Now And Again

Brimstone

Cupid (the shortlived show with Jeremy Piven, not the dating game show or whatever it was of the same title that followed a year ot two later)
There's one show that I loved as a kid that I would probably buy just for nostalgia sake.

The Greatest American Hero

Hell, I'd settle to have it in syndication on tv at 3 in the morning...
But a dvd set would be pretty cool...

Badger that is comming on DVD in Feb i think

I third the love for The Maxx. I wish I still had my comics, as I never finished my collection as they took seventeen million years in between each comic!

As for the Trigun box set, I've had mine for about three years now and you can find it at Amazon and Best Buy.

I would also like to have a good release (SE anybody?) of Four Rooms. The bare bones disc they have out now just gets no love from me.

Thread Starter
Isn't there a re-release of Ghostbusters due to some anniversary?

I wouldn't mind having some of the lesser known Westerns like Death Rides a Horse and "A Gun for Ringo" in Widescreen....and again...Fistful of Dynamite...anything that's Leone and not in Widescreen special Edition right now ought to be.........dammit.

i second another Jaws DVD, I rmember thinking the disc was lacking when I viewed it.
I third Brisco County, Jr.
"Young Indiana Jones (whenever you get around to it, Lucas"
I understand Young Indy is in the works, though no release date has been given.

I Second Captain Blood. With the huge Pirate craze created by "Pirates Of The Carribean", I am amazed the archtypical Pirate film did not see DVD release.
On the other hand, Warner's has been doing a great job with it classic Film Special Editions, and when "Blood" does come out it will probably be loaded with extras.

Yando, Thanks for secondening my "El Cid" entry. And I agree with every movie you list should have been on DVD a long time ago.
BTW the David Lean pack was delayed, not cancelled.
"Far From The Maddening Crowd" is another favorite of mine that should be on DVD.
Do movied that are no longer in print count? If so then I have to say Peter Jackson's The Frighteners and 12 Monkeys.

I want MST3K: The Movie to no longer be out of print. No thanks, Ebay scalpers.

SE versions of Foul Play, Fletch, Caddyshack, Stripes and Spies Like Us wouldn't kill me.
Hmmm...theres lots of movies and TV shows I'd love to have on DVD.

Heres a few:

**Movies**

Night of the Creeps
The Monster Squad
Student Bodies
Scarecrows
Motel Hell (I know its already out but I mean a big 2 disc set like it deserves instead of sharing a disc with another flick like it does now.)

**TV Movies**

Killdozer
Devil Dog:Hound of Hell
Ants (with Suzanne Sommers)
The Deadly Tower (with Kurt Russell as Charles Whitman. Great flick.)

**Animated**

Ghostbusters
The Real Ghostbusters
The Robonic Stooges
The original TMNT
Earthworm Jim
Freakazoid
Tiny Toons
Animaniacs
Pinky and the Brain
Logan the first Season of TMNT is out it also has a few episodes from the last season

A line of movies that are reflected in QT movies Think of all the stuff from Kill Bill alone
post #87 of 156
I want a version of Four Rooms with something other than "Widescreen" and "Scene Select" as special features. Something with a commentary would be nice.
I want a nice SE of Singles full of bells and whistles.

I second an El Cid SE as well.

A little-known Peter Sellers gem, I Love You Alice B. Toklas. I don't think enough people knows that movie exists. It will probably never happen.

4) Night of the Creeps (Blue Underground)
5) Four Flies on Gray Velvet (Blue Underground)

7) Rolling Thunder (Miramax/Rolling Thunder)
8) Tales of Hoffman (Criterion Collection)
9) Flash Gordon: 25th Anniversary Edition (Universal Pictures)
10) F is for Fake (Criterion Collection)

I already got one on my list to come true.

F is for Fake is coming out in May from Criterion.

Here's my new addition to the list:

10) The Magic Christian: Book and a Movie Edition.

(Bundle a better version of The Magic Christian together with the book that it was based on. Similar to what Columbia Tristar has done with "Tess" and what Criterion did with "Short Cuts".)
For my Kurosawa jones:

Sanshiro Sugata
Record of a Living Being
Drunken Angel

Other Japanese Films:

Samurai Rebellion
Harakiri
Sword of Doom (coming in a few months)
Godzilla--The Criterion Collection (I can dream, can't I?)

King Kong (probably in time for the Jackson film)
King Kong '05--Special Extended Edition (the production diaries alone make me hope Universal will get their shit together and give us a multi-disc set)
Superman II - The Donner Cut (HELL YES!)

I'll third the Criterion Fleischer Superman (are these public domain?)
The Adventures of Superman (season sets)
Spaced R1 (can't afford a region-free DVD player)
Zatoichi (the TV series)

More as I think of it...
A region 1 version of Cemetery Man would be great. So would a special edition of South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut with a commentary like the one they did for Cannibal the Musical.

Also:
Freddy's Nightmares
Monsters (the tv show)
Tales From the Darkside
Drawn Together

dvds

Widescreen Versions: Why the hell are these fullscreen only?
Ace Ventura
Grumpy Old Men
Endless Summer II
Just One of the Guys

Unreleased:
Quick Change - A great Bill Murray movie.
Dutch - I have a thing for this funny Ed O'Neil movie
License to Drive - A great corey's movie with a young Heather Graham
Stone Cold - I agree with an above poster about a need for this film

TV:
Ned & Stacy - 1st season only
Bakersfield P.D. - I was so dissapointed when this show was cancelled
Off Centre - I agree that this WB show with John Cho was great.

These are the ones that I could think of off the top of my head. There are more.

The Flash Gordon 25th Anniversary set is being worked on at Universal. (It was mentioned at the Digital Bits yesterday.)

License to Drive is coming in the spring from Anchor Bay.
