Favorite horror films released in this decade?

Now that we have reached the half-point of this decade, I guess it's time to look back and see if anything good came out of it. For me, there were probably more bad films or flat-out disappointments in this decade than anything else. I was hoping for a great FVJ film and didn't get that. I watched Darkness Falls, Van Helsing and might one day check out House of the Dead (maybe...). So, yeah, I guess you can say that I've been disappointed so far.

That's not to say that this decades hasn't given us anything good. For me, May is one of the greatest horror films ever made. I love that film (Angela too!!!!). That film alone has made this decade worthwhile. I also really liked Shaun of the Dead, Open Water, Wrong Turn (sort of), Cabin Fever (sort of), and a few more. I can't remember every horror film I liked, so I'll come back with a better list later.

2005 looks good, so I'm pretty optimistic. I can't wait for White Noise. I'm not much of a fan of remakes, but I can't wait for King Kong. Boogeyman doesn't seem too interesting, but I'll certainly give it a shot. I've never been a defender of House of 1,000 Corpses, but The Devil's Rejects could turn out to be awesome. Now that Rob Zombie has a film under his belt, maybe he'll really strike gold with this sequel. I hope so!

Dark Water - This is one of my absoulte favourites of the recent explosion of Japanes horror film.It´s directed by Hideo Nakata the same guy who did Ringu, but Dark Water is even better.


Session 9 - Really fucking scary haunted house film.Director Brad Anderson might be one of the best new directors in the horror genre, haven´t seen his The Machinist yet, but i´ve got really high hopes for it!


A zombie, horror, musical! I´m convinced that Wild Zero will become a cult film just like Blues Brothers and Spinal Tap.

SHAUN OF THE DEAD is about as perfect as you can get.

SESSION 9 came out of nowhere and surprised the hell out of me.

DAWN OF THE DEAD remake was another surprise blast.

All I can think of.

There have been some pretty good horror flicks in the last five years, and with Land of the Dead, The Ring 2, and this slew of remakes of Japanese ghost stories, or American movies influenced by them, I think we have lots of good stuff to look forward to in the horror genre coming up! I'm excited!

Even though this past year has been slow this decade has been great overall and when it's all said and done could rival any other decade for the best in horror.

My absolute fav is without a doubt House of 1,000 Corpses. It has Rob Zombie written all over it and I've seen it more than any other horror movie to come out this decade so far.

May is a classic which I will revisit many times as well along with Cabin Fever, Dawn of the Dead '04, TCM '04, Session 9, Ginger Snaps and its sequels, King of the Ants, Dog Soldiers and many more.

Can't wait for The Devil's Rejects.
