This show coming on the History Channel tonight at 8p CST sounds interesting. It's all about the Devil, Hell and its worshippers.

That reenactment of the guy who went to Hades was frickin' hilarious. Wasn't that footage used in a show Jonathan Frakes hosted once?

The guy who played the Devil in the tempting Christo scene went to the school of Turn The Dial Acting.

The segment about the Hellfire Club & Ben Franklin was great, wish I could have been there for the debauchery.

This special was little more than church ad though.

Fun special.
But I am still suprised that an act as corny and phony as the Church of Satan can still find enough rubes to be taken in. Anton LeVay got his start as a carny, and he found a way to really gull the suckers with this one. A bunch of people playing at being Satanist but being careful not to do anything illegal......
Now the Hellfire club, that was hardcore....

ANY controversial public group needs to avoid doing anything illegal -- that's just obvious common sense. Why do you think a true Satanist would need to break the law?

I myself have mixed feelings about LaVey. I suspect that, for him, Satanism was largely just a way to get attention. But I get this impression based on his overall attitude, not on the mere grounds that he avoided illegality.

I'm a theistic Satanist - one who reveres Satan as an actual entity, not just a symbol. (LaVey's Church of Satan, in contrast, does not believe in any gods and regards Satan as only a symbol.) I maintain the following website:

Interesting articles but I thought "Satanic ritual crimes" were debunked years ago. Satanism is an interesting concept to me and not at all what most people believe it to be from what little I have found out about it.
