Most anticipated for 2005

I'm really hoping the horror genre comes back with a vengeance in '05. '04 has been very disappointing for me as I already mentioned in another thread. I'm still holding out hope that this will be the year in which John Carpenter resurfaces with a great horror film. I wouldn't be surprised to see showing up at the cons next year either.

My most anticipated film is The Devil's Rejects. First of all Rob Zombie is the mother fucking man and I am interested in everything he does. He wanted to make a darker more serious horror film with Rejects and I for one can't friggin wait. Hopefully once he gets it completed he can get his ass into the studio and crank out another album. His last was pretty good and I absolutely loved the soundtrack to House of 1,000 Corpses. God I love that movie. Think I'll have to watch it again.

I'm also stoked to see P.J.'s version of King Kong. They picked the perfect guy for this one. Anyone else would have screwed it up I'm sure.

So what else is on the radar. We don't have to stick with most anticipated just what all is on the horizon for us horror fans?

I agree completely.

To that I would also add Romero's Land of the Dead and I am also fairly interested in seeing both High Tension and the miniseries adaption of Stephen King's Desperation. Something else that I am very much looking forward to is Mick Garris' Masters of Horror anthology film series, mainly because of all the talent involved (which includes Carpenter) and the freedom they have with the project.

On top of that, I'm curious (yet quite cautious) about each of the following films.......Wes Craven's Cursed, Frank Darabont's miniseries sequel to The Thing, and the remakes of Carpenter's Assault On Precinct 13 and The Fog.

I second that.

Doh! How could I forget to mention The Land of the Dead, good call. When I made my predictions for 2004 on this board I mentioned that I felt Romero was going to finally get his chance and that came true so hopefully my prediction about JC will come to light as well.

Cursed just has to be bad. It has no choice.

I am also cautiously interested in The Fog and Assault remakes. Dawn of the Dead and TCM got remade with great care and effectiveness I felt so hopefully these two will as well. I think The Fog will be easier to remake than Assault though. For Assault it was JC's first picture and it had the smallest budget. The movie is so good because of what John can do behind the camera and with his cast. I doubt another director can duplicate that feeling. With The Fog I think it can be done and isn't JC himself supposed to be involved somehow?

As for the mini-series sequel to The Thing this is the first I've heard of it. Do you have anymore info on it?

I have been looking forward to SATAN'S PLAYGROUND for about 2 years ...

And eventhough it's yet another remake, I am looking forward to seeing DARK WATER ...

Fill me in on Satan's Playground Elmie. It sounds familiar but I can't recall anything about it off the top of my head.

I've heard good things about Dark Water.

Land of the Dead, Land of the Dead, Land of the Dead.

Seriously though, being from Pittsburgh and having grown up in the areas where the first two movies were filmed, I haven't been this jacked for a movie in my life!

Strangers With Candy

The Corpse Bride

Hitchhiker's Guide... (although I'm still iffy on the casting)

In the Realms of the Unreal

Frank Darabont & David Foster(?) are producing a 4-hour miniseries sequel to John Carpenter's The Thing for the Sci-Fi Channel.

(As a side note, there are quite a few Hollywood directors producing projects for the Sci-Fi Channel next year, including Ridley Scott and Steven Spielberg).

Last I read, it is currently being written, though the screenwriter's name escapes me. Nothing has been stated about the plot beyond the fact that it is indeed a sequel. Frank Darabont is also a very good friend of Carpenter's, which give me a slight bit of hope that they might try to reign him in as director.

Here's recent a link...

I'm also very much looking forward to the Amiteyville Horror remake. Call me crazy but I enjoy the original but realize its many faults and can see where a remake can be really good. Again haven't the TCM and Dawn of the Dead remakes shut the naysayers up by now?
I didn't like the TCM remake at all. The Dawn remake had nothing to do with the original other than a mall and zombies. It was a good movie but it should have been called different. IMHO it was good enough to stand up on it's own. So no, I still don't like remakes.

I like Rob Zombie's music and videos. His first movie felt like an overlong video. I was ready for it to end about half way through the movie. I hope his next one is ALOT better.

Land Of The Dead is the one to watch. I hope this movie does as well as the original Dawn.

Not by a long way.
I have high hopes for The Ring 2, and maybe even Dark Water.

But overall, it doesn't look like a groudbreaking year for the horror genre. At least not yet.

I'm REALLY excited about those SCI-FI miniseries, they sound like they culd be good.

Looking forward to, and will probably be disappointed by, White Noise. Definitely looking forward to The Devil's Rejects, couldn't think of a better way to enjoy my birthday.

I just don't get why any fan of horror wouldn't at least enjoy the movie. It was dark and brutal and the cinematogrophy was outstanding. Not to mention Jessica Biel.

Land of the Dead:
George Romero has made some less than stunning films in recent years (Bruiser), but now Romero is back to doing what he does best, Zombies! I´ve got incredibly high expectations for this film, hopefully Romero will deliver the goods.

Day of the Dead: Contagium:
When is this film getting released?

A History of Violence:
David Cronenber does a comic adaptation.I´d prefer if he based his films on his own writings, oh well.

Boys Eats Girl:
An Irish Rom-Zom-Com, let´s hope that it will be just as awesome as Shaun of the Dead.

Worst Case Scenario:
http://www.gorehoundinc.com/
I love zombies, especially nazi zombies.

Return of the Living Dead 4 and 5:
More zombies!

I'm a big fan of the original, saw it at the drive-in.

I didn't find the remake dark or brutal. I didn't like the whole thing with them trying to explain Leatherface's skin problem and his reason for wearing the mask. Leatherface was picked on when he was little? Please.
As for Jessical Biel, she really doesn't do anything for me and even if she did that wouldn't make a bad movie good. IMHO the TCM remake was a very bad movie. And by the way, I saw it at the theater and my son's DVD and I still didn't like it.

I'm anticipating Land of the Dead the most because it's Romero, and we do not see enough of him anymore. I didn't like Day of the Dead, so I'm a little worried that I may be disappointed with this one but it should be pretty good. I really want Romero to make a very gritty, gorey film here.

I can't wait to see White Noise as well for a few reasons. I'm a huge Michael Keaton fan and have always thought his explosive persona was prefect for horror films, so that right there is a huge plus. Then, of course, there is the whole E.V.P. thing, which I find very interesting and creepy. I hope I'm not disappointed. After Jack Forst sucked beyond suck, Keaton said he was going to be more careful reading scripts, so let's hope he stuck with that.

The Devil's Rejects could seriously be a great film. I didn't like House of 1,000 Corpses, but I'm very interested in this one. If Land of the Dead isn't all I want it to be, I'm sure this film will deliver. If it really is supposed to be more serious, this could be something special along the lines of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. This generation really needs a film like that. You know what I mean: A film that grabs you by the balls, squeezes real hard and doesn't let go for an hour and a half.

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for Cursed, it may be moving in the trainwreck direction but...it's Christina Ricci...and werewolves...

Underworld had werewolves too....

Cursed, Ring 2, Saw 2, Rejects, Land, Fog R, Amityville R.

It's gonna be a good year for horror.

Assault will suck. Terribly.

So did Van Helsing.

In fact, most werewolf movies are total shit, but whenever a new one comes out I have to keep my fingers crossed for another Ginger Snaps or American Werewolf in London.

Four terribly unnecessary movies.

Face it girl, it ain't gonna happen. People just don't know how to make good werewolf movies anymore. Aside from GINGER SNAPS and the enjoyable but overrated DOG SOLDIERS, we haven't really had a decent one in decades, and I can't see it coming with CURSED, my love for the forehead of Ricci aside.
I'm not saying I think it's going to be a good movie, I'm just keeping a tiny bit of hope alive deep deep in my soul.

Someday a movie is going to come along that will revive my beloved sub-genre, and I want to be in the theatre when and if that happens. Therefore, I have to sit through a lot of really bad films.
I wouldn't exactly call it anticipated but what happened to the Hellraiser film that was supposed to be out last september?

In terms of anticipation, I'm looking forward to seeing the other Exorcist version although I have a feeling it will be an utter disaster. How can it be anything other than a mess if people thought Renny Harlin might make it better? Still, very curious.

Aside from that I'm hoping for some surprises so that we get a year with more than just sequels and remakes.

Dogg.

Dog Soldiers: Fresh Meat

Not sure if it will get the release in 2005 or not, but hoping it will.

Haute Tension has been hyped to the max for me. I hope it lives up.
Off the top of my head:

Frank Henenlotter's "Sick in the Head"
Jeff Lieberman's "Satan's Littler Helper" DVD since I don't live near anywhere it has played
Rob Zombie's "The Devil's Rejects"
Romero's "The Land of the Dead"
"The Woods"
Craven's "Cursed"
"The Amityvilel Horror" remake (I don't mind the idea of this remake because I didn't think the first was a classis, but the people making it worry me)
"2001 Maniacs" (I don't live near where I can see it at a theater)
