Top 10 horror films of all time....

I know we do this every now and then and I think its time has come. So once again list your top 10 horror films of all time...

1) Kubrick's The Shining
2) Carpenter's The Thing
3) Argento's Suspiria
4) Romero's Day of the Dead
5) Fulci's Zombie
6) Scott's Alien
7) Romero's Night of the Living Dead
8) Speilberg's Jaws
9) Miike's Audition
10) Landis's An American Werewolf in London

My list is in constant flux so no matter how many times I do this it always seems to come out different.

My number one pick would have to be JAWS. What an amazing film, although The Shining is very good. I think I would put Night before Day and Dawn not only because of the impact it had on horror filmmaking but because it is still effective today. Also, because it's a personal favorite of mine, I'd throw Evil Dead II up there.

5.) Bride of Frankenstein
6.) The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
7.) Night of the Living Dead
8.) Dawn of the Dead
9.) Black Sunday
10.) Frankenstein

Jaws normally makes the cut for mine but not this time. I think it's too soon after watching Open Water to have a shark flick on there. I do love it though.

Do you mean Takashi Miike's Audition, or is this a whole other film?

Actually, you don't I think. After some quick research, it appears that there was a Korean film made 2 years earlier (1997). Reading the description makes Miike's version sound like a remake. I never knew that.

Nope I meant Miike. How the hell did I do that?

Actually after considering for awhile I put Jaws back in and dropped Dawn of the Dead from the list. There's just so many great horror flicks it's hard to do a top 10.

I have also decided to drop House of 1,000 Corpses and put Alien back on there. It always makes the cut.

I don't not which is more difficult: deciding which films to leave off, or deciding if a film is actually considered "horror" ... IMHOBATTLE ROYALE is not horror, eventhough it would make my list ...

ok, ok, enough of that ... here's my list, which is subject to change at any moment:

1 PSYCHO

2 TALE OF TWO SISTERS

3 SUICIDE CLUB

4 SUSPIRIA

5 THE SHINING

6 TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE

7 DAWN OF THE DEAD

8 THE TENANT

9 NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD

10 BLAIR WITCH PROJECT

( oh, the horror of leaving AUDITION, FRIDAY THE 13TH, PHANTASM, BEYOND THE DOOR and THE WICKER MAN off my list

The only film I've ever seen which I found scary was Fire in the Sky. I love horror, but rarely ever do I find myself scared by it. That being said, 10 'horror' flicks I love:

-Evil Dead
-The Brood
-Day of the Dead
-American Werewolf in London
-The Devil's Backbone
-Videodrome
-Dagon
-Reanimator
-The Thing
-Dead Alive

I'm dying to see zombie, suspiria, audition, dead ringers, bride of reanimator, and shitloads more.

No love for Carrie?

For what it's worth my list, in no particular order, would look something like...

A Nightmare on Elm Street
Carrie
The Evil Dead
The Shining
Society
Near Dark
Candyman
The Thing
Rosemary's Baby
Hellraiser

Though that's mostly just off the top of me head. So don't quote me on it...

24. Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn
25. Wes Craven's New Nightmare

I know the list is long, but I had to do it. There were far too many films I wanted to metion. In fact, here are a few more: Nosferatu (Herzog), Carrie, Ginger Snaps, Dracula (w/ Frank Langella), The Cell, The Phantom of the Opera (Chaney), The Phantom of the Opera (Englund), Creature from the Black Lagoon, Opera, Tenebre, Hellraiser, Hellbound: Hellraiser II, The Thing From Another Planet, The Thing, Friday the 13th, Stir of Echoes, The Sixth Sense, Martin, Black Sunday, Captain Cronos: Vampire Hunter, Asylum, Tales from the Crypt, The Brood, The Fly (Cronenberg), The Fly (Price), Laura (this one wold make it, but I don't think it can be categorized as "horror"), many other Vincet Price films and many others.

And I know The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is sort of down there on the list, but I really do like that film. I just happen to believe that there are 16 better horror films.

And I just remembered The Innocents, which should have made the top 25.

4 The Thing (Carpenter)
5 Carrie
6 Phantasm

8 Return of the Living Dead
9 Dawn of the Dead '04 (Gotta give credit where credit's due)
10 Creepshow

Not really in any particular order, but these are the movies I always seem to watch more than others.
