Assault on Precint 13 (2005)

Who's there come the 19th? I know I am. I don't think it'll live up to the original in any way but I am expecting an entertaining flick. How can you go wrong with the likes of Ethan Hawke, Laurence Fishburne, Brian Dennehy and Gabriel Byrne.

It's terrible. Very boring and stupid.

But do any little girls get sprayed with rasberry sauce?

devin needs to host his own show. One like Reading Rainbow, except with movies.

I'll be there. I just hope it is at least decent.

The original Assault on Precint 13 was amazing, and i think the new version wont be as good and have those really lame camera swipes like in S.W.A.T.

ill go see it anyways.

I might see it--definitely on DVD. did you see the article about this in the new fangoria? it seems like carpenter had managed to hang onto the rights all this time and handpicked the new director. plus apparently he was around the set making uncredited suggestions and whatnot.

I haven't picked up the new Fango yet but that sounds interesting. I had no idea JC was involved. That gives me hope.

The Original is a great action flick, and a good example of what a good filmaker can do with a miniscule budget.
But I am not optimistic about the remake on the grounds that 90% of the time the remake is vastly inferior to the original.
I am really afriad it is going to be just another big shoot em up like "Swat" or a dozen other films.

Damn shame what a waste. Love, Love the original and I thought maybe this remake would be a somewhat enjoyable flick. If Dev is right they blew it here.

I'm hoping for an entertaining action flick nothing more. I love the original and I know there is no way the remake can live up to it but I don't think it looks bad. Besides it has been awhile since we got a good siege movie.

I thought Carpenter said he would have nothing to do with it?

i think it'll be ok

but Ja Rule is in it UGHHHHHHh

I read the Fangoria article. According to it,

-JC gave them the rights to the movie after seeing a couple of Jean Richet's movies.
-JC gave some input to the screenwriter James DeMonaco.

So that was his involvement.

Ebert liked it. He gave it 3 stars and a fairly positive write-up. It may not be as bad as Devin would like everyone to think it is.

You can go wrong by casting not only Ja Rule, but John Leguizamo. That's how.

Seeing it on Saturday, though I won't post my opinion until Monday (I work two 12-hour shifts this weekend, thus no online time). Point is I am a die-hard Carpenter fan and since this is the first "official" remake of his work, I'm too curious to not watch it.

Will it be atrocious? I doubt it. Will it be excellent? Small chance of that. Will it be mediocre? More than likely. Better than the original? Hell no.

I thought that it was ok. It had some good moments, but it was fairly predictible. The original was much better IMO. It had a creepy edge to it that this one doesn't.

It was a decent remake that, thankfully, didn't try to really be like the original and went for a different tone(although all of the main story concepts, except the father/daughter stuff, was there and many of the scenes are intact for the most part). As an action film itself, it was fairly good and was a little more violent and gritty than I initially expected it to be. I'd venture to say it was the best action film that I have seen in awhile, although I can't remember really what the last straight action film I watched was (which isn't a good sign.) Will it be surpassed in that regard this year? One would certainly hope so, considering it's only January.

Main point? If you like action movies, go give it a shot. If you looking for an update of the original, either pass on it or wait until video.
