Boll announces $107m production fund for new video game movies

Denis Seguin in Toronto 07 January 2005 04:00

Frankfurt-based BOLL KG has raised $107m with its production investment fund to finance feature films based on video games, according to CEO and director Uwe Boll. The new money will be directed toward the coproduction partnership Boll established with Vancouver-based service production specialist Brightlight Pictures.

The partners are working on a slate of projects that will tap Canadian tax credits, including two completed films - Alone In The Dark, starring Christian Slater and Tara Reid, and BloodRayne, starring Kristanna Loken and Ben Kingsley - both set for distribution in 2005. Another title, Dungeon Siege goes before camera this year.

Said Boll in a statement, "In 2003, Boll KG saw $47 million (US funds) raised and in the 2004 fiscal, we increased this amount to $107 million, which is a great success in the film industry." With the rising popularity of films based on computer games, Boll anticipates high box office sales for both films."

Since its launch in 2000 Boll has developed eight features, including $10.6m House Of The Dead, which grossed $40m worldwide.

Where are those numbers coming from? According to BoxOfficeMojo.com, HOTD cost $22 million to make and market, yet had a worldwide gross of THIRTEEN million dollars, not forty. That's a huge discrepancy.

All I can said is that screendaily.com is a more reliable source than BoxOfficeMojo.com.

How do you know Mojo isn't as reliable? Do you have any evidence of this? They've been a reliable source for years.

Mojo is a reliable source, but sometime, they did some wrongs

First one is this:

http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=...ftheunreal.htm

IN THE REALMS OF THE UNREAL isn't NC-17? In fact, it is unrated. (Dakota Fanning's voice is in it.)

Whether you believe or not, my friend always post messages to Mojo to help them to fix their wrong informations.

For the $40m worldwide gross of HOUSE OF THE DEAD, I think that screendaily.com received this infromation from BOLL KG (Uwe Boll's company). They did get the statement from BOLL KG. Therefore, at least, it would be "offical" .

Well, you've certainly got them there, unless there's some hot Dakota Fanning action in that movie we don't know about. But the fact that Boll KG's numbers are higher than BoxOfficeMojo's is highly suspect. Could they have been inflating them to attract more investors?

Maybe you are right in that point.

They'll probably have included DVD sales in the $40m figure.

Maybe that includes the people who thought about seeing it, but opted to slam their genitals in car door instead.

Maybe...

That's what I thought, too. Probably every ancillary stream they could throw in the pot is part of that $40 million figure.

Are there any doubts left that this whole Boll deal is a German tax scam?

It's the only logical answer.

All I can say is that I hope the people who are giving Boll money to continue his career lose every cent they invest and die a slow and horrible death for the horrors they are helping to inflict on mankind.
I try to keep an open mind on films based on video games, but that Boll has become the king of the genre
is pushing me to a complete hatred of the genre.
I honest to God hope this is just a Tax Shelter scheme. That is a lot easier thought to live with then that there is actually a market for Uwe Boll shit.

"Another title, Dungeon Siege goes before camera this year."
Jesus, Bill Gates (Microsoft Games and Uwe Boll getting together.
The Apocalypse is upon us.....
